River

nah the mid-2010's+

When reggaeton and trap are all over the place and all you here is the same sound over and over.

2019-2022 we see a recovery, the pop and hip hop like we knew them are coming back.

We even see Rock back to mainstream.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

There was a shift, I think that's the core of it. The shift was to not stand out anymore. But to follow trends and get a hit, and for that you follow what got to number 1. That's how Usher ended up in dance pop, Xtina followed after seeing Gaga getting big, Katy Perry emerged, even with rap Nicki got a little pop and imitated/was inpired by Gaga's costumes and wardrobe, same with Katy. I remember when Bieber came out with Where Are U Now with these weird whale sounds that were never really heard before and then everything sounded like this, every ****ing songs on the radio was just weird sounds and it didn't stop for a long time. Then mumble rap got big, maybe with emergence of Vine app, and then rap changed out of nowhere, and hip hop got bigger mixing it with pop. Tumblr got big and we got more of an indie pop/rnb sound, The weeknd, frank ocean, Lana Del Rey being her own genre. And guess what, The Weeknd became mainstream with his 70s inspired sound, and then Dua Lipa hops on the trend, Doja Cat emerges. I understand being inspired, but a lot of what's happening is a copy of a copy of a copy. It's not about being different, it's about fitting in. No real character, no real talent a lot of the time with lyrics, sounds. The raw talent I mean is kinda dead. The era of a superstar is dead. We don't have pop superstars anymore, and I mean new ones, that emerge, that grow like a wildfire, that dances, sing, has a new sound, is interesting, exciting, becomes the rage. A sensation, a new fresh star. We get newcomers but they don't really inspire anything. There's no "mania", there's no fascination, I think the last one might have been Gaga when I think about it, and Bieber

Dua Lipa didn't "hop" on a trend, she and the weeknd released their singles AT THE EXACT SAME TIME, Don't Start Now and Blinding Lights.

Out of Gaga's tracks that perfectly encapsulate that era are Just Dance, Telephone, and Born This Way. The latter two being rather cheesy but still fun!

The reality is this...

We went from timbaland style generic music with hooks and Gaga & Black eyed peas swerved everyone with dance pop electronic music so everyone suddenly changed direction.

You had Kesha, Nicki, LMFAO, 3OH!3 Etc coming in with their "we can go harder than the others" mentality, RedOne all over spread like chlamydia and not a single OUNCE of integrity in most artists.

The rise to absurd heights for DrPuke, David Guetta etc with their extreme level of mediocrity to jump on a trend like a dollar store version of what was popular was insane.

Thankfully we swerved again with Adele putting a stop to the nonsense alongside Gotye & others soon followed.

Finally the nail in the coffin for the "too much noise" music (referring to low quality tracks) was Uptown Funk. From Someone Like You to Uptown Funk there was a broadening of taste. Taylor Swift can be added in there too as a game changer actually.

And no, Lana didn't do anything. Most people haven't heard of her.

Soon the copycat artists and bandwagoners moved on to other types of music to create an awful parody of.

outside gaga yes, everything else was just indulgent and meaningless EDM at its most generic, she said "you have to trick people into listening something intelligent"

the truth is they did hop on, 80's nostalgia was already trending in a lot in the entertainment outlets, cinema, social media and television, remember stranger things in 2019? epitome of 80's nostalgia, what they did was just bridge it to the music industry, why do you think they made it at the same time? it was already a trend.

The structures and climaxes were better but quality of today's music is a lot better, specially production-wise and lyric-wise, it's not only about partying all night anymore :partysick:
