It's a pandemic and y'all are concerned about "no concerts, no festivals" lol. I suggest you have a chat with a WWII survivor and tell them about your worries. There's a chance you might see how insanely privileged we are. It's a global crisis, what did you expect? What would you do in times of war if staying at home is already more than you can handle? Well I think many people like me obeyed all the rules and made all the efforts in the world, I lost my job, went broke, and even made the decision to wait a while until I get a job because I kept thinking, a job means taking the subway, which means being in a crowd, and more likely to get the virus and then give it possibly to my parents who are in their 60s or my grandmother. I vaccinated, I avoid parties at all cost, even bars, or things like this, I avoided travelling, I stayed in my country, I had no summer in 2020, I stayed in polluted Paris, broke, no money, no job, at home. Some people had it worse though you're right, some lost their restaurant, their stores, their business, some lost their homes, I mean it's countless how lockdowns made people lose things, but of course saved countless lives. But now in 2022, it's not late 2019 anymore, we have tools to be able to live more comfortably, I don't think in the long run it's fair or even logical to keep living as if it's 2020 and we just discovered the virus, especially since omicron and now BA2 seem to be much weaker. PartySick 174,288
That's because the real pandemic now is stupid people who refuse to get vaccinated. I say let covid have 'em. I'm sick of their asses Of course that increases the odds of a vaccine busting variant coming about but we've all collectively stopped caring so whatever Whimsical bitch

Well, you're also terrified of the thought of not being able to attend festivals for two more years, so I'm not surprised that someone being able to accept the fact that self regulation is necessary in this kind of situation must shock you to the core. I'd like to say the feeling is mutual, but I guess people like me are unfortunately far too used to people like you at this point.

"I suggest you have a chat with a WWII survivor and tell them about your worries" you could say that about any complaint ever. Would you tell a WWII survivor to think of those who experienced the black plague? Hiding in a bomb shelter is just an inconvenience compared to that! Of course nothing we're experiencing compares to what people in the past went through, and that's a good thing. Idk where you're from, of course in many countries the situation is still bad. But in Europe everyone has access to vaccines, and its simply a fact that if you're fully vaccinated there is an extremely low risk of being hospitalised. At this point, restrictions and lockdowns etc. do more harm than good. Its not that "staying home is more than we can handle", but why would we do it if we don't have to? They’re now letting it rip through society since Omicron is more mild. The handling of COVID-19 by the world overall has been a complete failure. From governments AND the people. It’s time to accept we are on our own and must protect ourselves. Get vaxxed, wear a mask, and be smart. First post ive seen on GGD that doesnt put 100% of the blame soley on the Governments thankyou! Its important as a society we learn to accept our failures (if we are indeed at fault) instead of just blame shift all the time. Its also possible for blame to be shared, it doesnt always have to be that black and white that only one side screwed up Yes Governments made a lot of mistakes. But when they did put measures in place to try to contain it did everyone co-operate and listen? Did everyone act responsible? Hell to the no. Many even protested measures to which Governments couldnt even stop otherwise they are "dictators" like China "taking away our freedoms" I honestly put just as much blame on irresponsible individuals as I do on Government which includes but not limited to: - antivaxxers - party gatherors - anti mask Karens - ppl who just didnt care either way - ppl who arent anti measures necessairily but could never use common sense like standing too close to other people, wear their mask correctly, wash hands etc Even if the Governments did a better job u can only do so much when these are the people we have to deal with

And it will probably be quicker too with everything reopening and pretending the pandemic is over. European countries did fairly well in 2020 and most of 2021 but lately with people getting tired and starting to pretend it's over things are just getting worse. It's time to grow up and learn to adapt - not just pretend things are over.

Yes, I have a friend who works at the hospital and every week she's giving me the numbers, and every week the numbers of hospitalizations and deaths is increasing. Omicron is milder but so much more contagious. The only GGD member who can read / Credits to Celloo Deng for the profile pic!
Luc 4,776
I wouldn't say the Netherlands is reopening all sectors. Nightlife is still forbidden, as it has been for the past 2 years except for one month... Omicron is far less dangerous. It's (almost, I'd wait an extra 2-3 weeks) time to let the virus roam free and give the youth their youth back. The fact that cases kept rising quickly despite a full lockdown while cases in the UK have recently been dropping shows that herd immunity, this time, is the solution.
