I agree. Too many biopics this year, 4 of them starring white actresses. Maybe 2 or 3 will get in. 

I think Gaga's disadvantage is that Patrizia is an OBSCURE FIGURE compared to Princess Diana (Kristen), I Love Lucy actress Lucille Ball (Nicole) and televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker (Jessica). 

If you'd never watched Lucille or Tammy Faye on TV or video, you'd think Nicole and Jessica were so over the top it's ridiculous... Truth is stranger than fiction. 

Was Gaga over the top because Patrizia was over the top?? Did she capture Patrizia's mannerisms and essence? Who knows. Few, IF ANY, SAG/Oscar voters have seen videos of Patrizia. 

And while Kristen, Jessica and Nicole were allowed to be over the top AND vulnerable... HoG was more of an ensemble drama, e.g., the hospital scene ended up on the cutting room floor. Just as they got to the good part - the trial - the movie was over. 🤔

I think Gaga's advantage is that the GP likes her. There are 5 spots. She may not be #1 for many Oscar voters, but if enough of them put her down as #4 or #5, she could get in. SAG - If enough members of the SAG nominating committee for Motion Pictures like her as an actress, she could get in.

I'm kind of thinking she's going to get snubbed for SAG (going to stay off twitter tomorrow, as it's going to be ugly from fans and Gaga haters) and that will hurt her big time in terms of the Oscars.

In the past, people have missed out on SAG and were still nominated for the Oscars. But they usually had the advantage of being in critically acclaimed films and having momentum in other areas (like a BAFTA nom). But the new BAFTA rules are really confusing and the chances are that at least 2, maybe even 3, actresses will be snubbed in favor of UK actresses. So Gaga won't have that momentum...and to be frank her campaign is not going over well imo, at least in the film industry press, and she's barely doing screenings/events like Chastain, Stewart, etc. Which is kind of ironic, as film twitter is so eager to paint her as desperate....

Yeah, the GP liking her will help at the Oscars as they are more populist than SAG. But the semi negative constant press is going to hurt her as will missing out on SAG/BAFTA (I could be wrong, but I think her chances there are slim).

I swear, if Gaga got snubbed in favor of Cruz, Reinsive, Hudson, Thompson, etc. I'd at least understand it. But it's absurd that Zegler (and she was good, but she was nowhere near as critically acclaimed as the others) might get in and Cruz, Thompson, Gaga, Reinsive, etc. will get snubbed. Kind of speaks as to how ridiculous the whole awards season is and how a big part of it is popularity and being charming and all that.
