Beginning gives me Avici vibes.

I like the song.

But I kind of hate it that her voice has been autotuned i na way that we loose her signature tone.

for the record, this means the song made around $1448. ofc that’s spotify alone, but it’s pennies.

divide it between the writers, producers, katy, the label, and subtract whatever the promo and the single cover art cost…they probably just broke even

of course Katy can afford it, but it really makes you think about just how little small artists make

it's not that bad for less than half a day I think

Spoiler

not that I expect the song to take off comercially anyways

You think it only costs around $1,500 to produce and put out a single? :ladyhaha:

Is this a good sign or bad? Her hair is black on the single cover so I expect this to be a smash.

never said that:icega:

having worked with musicians before:triggered: i know studio time will be a few hundred (if it’s a nice studio)

then you have to pay the engineer, the artist who creates the single cover, the vocal producer/mixer, obviously the artist, the label gets a cut, the writers, and if you do any promo (playlisting, billboards, etc) that costs money too.

that’s without considering the fact that the song has a video, which easily costs over a grand.

point is that katy’s taking home pennies for this song. she’s a millionaire regardless, but for small artists, streams make no money

But how much do you expect streaming services to pay? There are billions and billions of streams every day. A lot of users have free accounts, some have premium accounts for 9.99/month. Of course 1 person playing your song once is going to pay you basically nothing

i don’t know, i’m not a mathematician, nor am i an expert on economy or finances. i’m just saying that it sucks that it’s so tough for small artists to make money

A Katy Perry single probably costs well over $500,000 to produce and market if not over $1 million since it also has a music video…

Here’s an article for reference: https://www.npr.org/sections/money/2011/07/05/137530847/how-much-does-it-cost-to-make-a-hit-song

Yeah of course I agree with that! But I think it has always been hard for small artists and struggling with streaming money is just the next step as streaming services became the popular way to consume music now... If you don't have an audience you'll always have problems making money as a musician

Is that any good? What's a Gaga comparison?

one of thee most famous pop stars in México was tweeting not long ago that he was paid in a month $15 pesos (less than 1 dollar) from spotify and saying he could make more money singing outside the subway.
