Dutch evening lockdown extended into 2022

The current slate of coronavirus restrictions in The Netherlands will be extended at least until January 14.

People in the Netherlands will have to continue coping with the early closure of their favorite bars and restaurants through the busy winter holiday period. The entire hospitality industry currently has to close nightly at 5 p.m. The same rules apply for nearly every business, arts, and cultural location in the country.

Additionally, there will be no change to the maximum number of household guests allowed per day, even on Christmas, Boxing Day, and perhaps also New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The government has issued an “urgent” piece of advice that no more than four guests over the age of 12 are allowed into a household per day. There are no limits to the number of visitors below that age.

The only exemptions to date are for essential stores, like supermarkets and drugstores, which can close at 8 p.m. Essential services, like notaries, attorneys, medical professionals, and mortgage advisors can maintain their normal business hours.

I literally can't take this anymore. Our government is such a mess   In the weekends stores and gyms are PACKED (very COVID-friendly) because it's literally the only time during the week people can go shopping or do sports, since everything is closed after working hours. Plus they're too soft to implement stronger regulations against the unvaccinated, like the rest of Europe already has done. 

Edit: forgot to say we are at the very bottom of booster vaccinations in Europe (only Bulgaria is slower)

It pretty ironic to see how the pandemic affects every country differently.
In the Netherlands and Germany it's a whole mess right now, where as the situation in Spain and Portugal seems to be pretty good right now. Some month ago it was basically the opposite.

Yeah it really just depends on the point in time. Feels very random how things can shuffle so quickly overnight.

So annoyed right now. Was in the gym today and it was packed, people running into eachother. I work in a restaurant and apparently we are the only one checking the QR correctly and making sure people wear masks when they walk around. People get angry at me and my collegues…

I would literally go insane if I still had to go home and do nothing but watch Netflix everyday of my life. Eating out and grabbing a drink with friends is the only thing I have to look forward to most weeks  (3x vaccinated and wear masks in public so I feel comfortable going out)

Wow what a sensible post! After being Spain, Portugal and Italy criticized mainly by the countries that now are suffering the most, the tables have turned. Moral of it, mind your f*cking business and don't criticize anyone for the management of the pandemic, this sh*t affects ALL of us. And no, I am not gonna be critic with the Netherlands and Germany, just hope this uncountable wave passes soon

Wouldn't it just be easier to ban the unvaxxed from these places instead of continuing to punish the citizen's who've done their part? I see stories like this and I am reminded how grateful I am to be living the in the USA, where our federal government can't impose lockdowns on this scale.

exactly this! I live in Germany myself and am quite embarrassed about the way we treat all of this. And our media that was trash talking about Spain and Portugal back then. I'm just happy for the people over there.

It seems really counterintuitive to do this... seems like more people will pack into those locations during the limited open hours rather than spreading it out

I really hate the fact that you can't go to a cinema or restaurant after 5 pm. Where a vaccination passport is required, where you are seated and are required to keep distance. But I am forced to go to university from 6 pm until 8 pm in a jam-packed school 🥰
