Oh jeez :rip:

It's a ways off yet still because Oscar eligibility runs from Jan 01 to December 31. They're on a calendar year schedule whereas the Grammy eligibility period is on a shifted calendar (I think it is the last 3 months of one year and then the first 9 months of the following year as their calendar year but don't quote me on that).

Gaga's performance is heavily criticized.

Not entirely true. Although the movie did get bad reviews, almost all the critics agreed that Gaga's performance was excellent and that she saved the movie. Even the critics consensus on RT says the same thing.

IMO, she's gotten more praise than Kidman and Colman. Also, Gaga missed only 1 nomination from these regional critics awards so far (Detroit) but other than that, she's been one of the few actresses who have been consistently nominated. So her chances are looking pretty good right now but let's not jinx anything.

Red wine, cheap perfume and a filthy pout.

I'm so excited for this. Someone remind me, with ASIB there was discussion about no one has ever lost for best actress at Golden Globes and then gone on to the Oscars to win? There is something like that with the Golden Globes, but I can't remember exactly what it is.

Yes, people have won Best Actor/Actress at the Oscars without even being nominated at the Golden Globes before, I believe. There definitely are more men actors that lost the Golden Globe but won the Oscar (Denzel Washington, Halle Berry come to mind. Actually, Halle lost a lot of the critics awards for Monster's Ball.)

Anyone know when Oscar noms are announced?

Fingers crossed Gaga gets a win for both :flutter:

You don't need to wait usually the majority of golden globes and sag award nominations end up being the same noms for the same oscar categories. Not always, there's been upsets and snubs before but 90% of the time they're all relatively the same

Gaga's nomination depends mostly on the direction the Globes are taking this year.... They always love big names, and they usually nominate a lot of celebrities, because - to be perfectly honest - the Globes are more about the ceremony than the actual achievements.

But with the controversy surrounding them, they might go for a more diverse/indie approach this year so the celebrities might get the shorter end of the stick, if there is no broadcast.

Is that why she won BEST ACTRESS at the oldest, most prestigious and the snobbiest critics circle last week? :oprah:

Needless to say her performance is outstanding and deserves a nomination. Although with the recent releases of new films, there are 7-8 actresses are in the running. It really is tough to get in unless the nomination serves a narrative that benefits the credibility of the award. Let's see how this turns out.
