Shia Labeouf was fired as Tim Chalamets lover in Call Me By Your Name.

The 2017 film’s Oscar-winning writer and producer James Ivory explained in his new memoir, “Solid Ivory,” that LaBeouf was first contacted to play the role.

“Shia came to read for us in New York with Timothée Chalamet, paying for his own plane ticket, and [director Luca Guadagnino] and I had been blown away,” Ivory said. “The reading by the two young actors had been sensational; they made a very convincing hot couple.”

The actor was reportedly “dropped” from the flick after some bad publicity headed his way.

“He’d fought with his girlfriend; he’d fended off the police somewhere when they had tried to calm him down,” Ivory continued. “Luca would not call him, or his agent. I emailed Shia to offer reassurance, but then Luca cast Armie Hammer and never spoke to, or of, Shia again.”

The filmmaker then revealed that he was let go as director — and the feature would instead be directed solo by Guadagnino.

Shia is the better actor. Armie is the better looking actor.  It's a toss up for me.

Shia looks too rough for that character, so I guess it was a good choice. Anyways, that movie is overrated, if you wanna see a good gay movie just watch God's own country

I don't know. There was some scenes when Timothée acted circles around Armie. Like that scene with the peach. Tim might as well have been acting with a wooden tree I almost rolled my eyes at Armies acting. It was a little distracting next to a performer like Tim that is giving you world class acting TBH. It's like his big acting move was opening his eyes wide and smiling. Just off my memory the time he shut the door on Tim and the time he was on the bus and noticed the women on the bicycle. 

I haven't watched anything else Armie is in, so I don't have anything else to compare him to. Maybe that was how he wanted to play the character.
