While I understand it's a sensitive topic doesnt comedians joke about sensitive topics all the time and get away with it because it's comedy?

Maybe it’s because I’ve been watching him since I was a kid but he literally didn’t say anything that he normally wouldn’t say. He’s classically out of pocket and gets under your skin as a setup form/method of comedy. I’ve never minded it. In fact I thought the way he ended his special was probably one of the realest things I’ve ever seen him do. I’m convinced that most the people claiming how horrible “what he said” was didn’t even actually watch it or listen to what he was saying but rather just wait for their turn to talk ab how their feelings were hurt at a COMEDY show. Y’all take one quotation from an hour long comedy show and make it sound ten times worse than it actually is because that’s the only part you’re willing to pay attention to. :laughga: I’ve actually never seen Dave be so genuine with the LGBT community before. He even said that he will not be making comedic remarks about such until he’s sure WE CAN ALL LAUGH TOGETHER.

HIS ENTIRE SPECIAL was literally trying to teach people a lesson on SIMPLY TRYING TO UNDERSTAND what the people around you are going through.

I’m genuinely irritated of how whiny people can be.

Yes but it’s 2021 and we’re no longer allowed to have comedians unless it’s Amy Schumer talking about her vagina for 2 hours.

I think we as a society have gone a bit too far with how we react to certain things. Modern society mixed with old school 2000s would have been perfect. A little bit of everything, making people feel accepted but still carefree enough to the point where we understand that certain things just aren't meant to be malicious.

"Chappelle is one of the most popular stand-up comedians today, and we have a long standing deal with him. His last special, Sticks & Stones, also controversial, is our most watched, stickiest, and most award winning stand-up special to date. As with our other talent, we work hard to support their creative freedom - even though this means there will always be content on Netflix some people believe is harmful, like Cuties, 365 Days, 13 Reasons Why, or My Unorthodox Life.

Several of you have also asked where we draw the line on hate. We don’t allow titles on Netflix that are designed to incite hate or violence, and we don’t believe The Closer crosses that line. I recognize, however, that distinguishing between commentary and harm is hard, especially with stand-up comedy which exists to push boundaries. Some people find the art of stand-up to be mean-spirited but our members enjoy it, and it’s an important part of our content offering.

In terms of our commitment to inclusion, we’re working hard to ensure more people see their lives reflected on screen and that under-represented communities are not defined by the single story. So we’re proud of titles like Sex Education, Young Royals, Control Z and Disclosure. Externally, particularly in stand-up comedy, artistic freedom is obviously a very different standard of speech than we allow internally as the goals are different: entertaining people versus maintaining a respectful, productive workplace."

Ok so maybe remove the quotes from your other comment. I agree with your paraphrasing but I was in shock the a CEO would speak that way.

I don't disagree with what he is saying but I do believe it should be taken down. It really can be argued that stand up is a commentary on life, but the entire show only has one POV. Usually a lesson is learned at the end of the stand up. I don't feel like anything was learned here. I don't even think it was that funny. I'm not so sure that is commentary.

But the truth is maybe that is the commentary of an aging black rich man who lives in a bubble. Let's face it, Dave Chappelle is a filthy rich fossil. He'll lose many fans over this.

Thank God there are younger rich black men who don't think like this but also wield alot of power and influence over the black community. Like Dwayne Wade who is raising his trans child with his wife.

Unpopular opinion: I don’t need the entire world to agree with my views, beliefs and opinions.

I am not a fan, but I don’t think what he said is particularly awful, but to many it could seem outdated. People just need thicker skin.

Period.
