ISIS and the Taliban are separate entities. The Taliban took over the country, and reminded the US to leave because they could not guarantee protection from ISIS. the US didn’t leave in time, and ISIS just attacked and killed US soldiers. So the taliban probably had all this planned. There have also been MANY troops of American soldiers already gone, there still aren’t many soldiers there rn. The Taliban’s lack of sovereignty is the reason the US went into Afghanistan after 9/11 (and their decision to do so was back by so many UN members) in the first place. Essentially we’re seeing a very similar situation with how Al-Qaeda was handled, but this time the terrorism occurred in Afghanistan and not in the US. The attacks will likely be carried out by drone aircraft that can be manned from a remote location (few to zero US soldiers would have to carry out a ground mission).
