The Wilds safari park in Cumberland took to social media to announce that greater one-horned rhinoceros Sanya gave birth to a female calf on Aug. 16. The newborn “appears to be strong and healthy,” the Facebook post read. This month's calf is the ninth greater one-horned rhino born at The Wilds, a 10,000-acre park managed by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. It is located in Cumberland, about 70 miles southeast of Columbus. The facility calls this a ‘significant achievement,’ saying that the species nearly went extinct during the 20th century.
