AWARDS PREDICTION COMMENTARY:

Names like Lady Gaga (“House of Gucci”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Don’t Look Up”), Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”) and Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”) are very helpful for Oscar ratings and they all could be in the conversation this year. Other former winners are also in the mix like recent winner Frances McDormand (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”), Penelope Cruz (“Parallel Mothers”) and Jennifer Hudson (“Respect”).

1    Lady Gaga  - House of Gucci
2    Penélope Cruz  - Parallel Mothers
3    Kristen Stewart  - Spencer
4    Nicole Kidman  - Being the Ricardos
5    Frances McDormand - The Tragedy of Macbeth

If Kristen Stewart is nominated then she will win.  If portraying a British royal in a movie, it is a sure thing you will win the Oscar!

Omg they dropped J Hud:udidnt: Was the movie received poorly?

Mixed to positive reviews. :awesome: Jennifer's performance received praise but there are quite a few high-profile publications that hated both, the film and her performance. Many said it's just Jennifer Hudson having an Aretha karaoke night.

Naah, they get that - some of them are simply not vibing with her performance. They don't "see" or "feel" Aretha, but miss Hudson covering her songs.

Despite all that, I think she's the closest thing to a lock in the Best Actress category for now.

House of Gucci no longer predicted for a best picture nomination though (I saw CODA at its Sundance premiere and it was great, but not best picture worthy.  Wouldn’t be surprised if HoG takes its spot).  Also, the film isn’t predicted for a costume nomination which shocks me (and neither was my second-in-line prediction Cruella).

I know people say that too much early buzz can make expectations difficult to meet, but I'm glad Gucci is getting consistent traction from Oscar pundits. If you're not even talked about now, you have a chance of not even getting to the nomination list, which means no winning, and no movie events for Gaga. I know people say movies are not made for awards but hey I'm a Lady Gaga fan that wants Lady Gaga to succeed, I don't think that's too unreasonable.

And if the hype for Gucci dips before award season, there will be a chance it rises again later during award season. Getting people to watch it in the first place is definitely a priority now considering how few people go to the cinema nowadays.

I think I want Kristen Stewart to be nominated even more than Gaga. Gaga has proven the doubters wrong. I want all the people who have dragged Kstew for 13 years to have to see Oscar Nominee/winner in front of her name.

If both Gaga and Kristen are nominated it will get me through the cold dark winter 😁

Respect is sadly a terrible movie. But Audra McDonald got in last year for a terrible movie. So, who knows? I think McDonald and Cruz are the arthouse locks and some combination of those biopic roles will round it out - Kidman. Gaga, Stewart, etc.

She's so good. In Personal Shopper, Certain Women, etc.
