I never really understood the “this album is 100% personal” theme - it’s almost ironic cause this feels the most detached and inauthentic out of all of her albums. And it’s not just because it’s rock-pop but because it never really delves into the singer-songwriter vibe she wanted to give with this album. Although I love the bops (John Wayne, Dancin In Circles and Perfect Illusion) I wish she would have either went that route or complete acoustic. I wish she would have dropped the pop side of the album and went full on acoustic. Trying to deliver the pop side of it gave it a “try-hard” take on the genre. That or I wish she would have went full on Kelly Clarkson and did a full album of rock-pop bops with a few stadium ballads (aka Million Reasons). It's nice to listen to while on a long trip as it is a very laid back album, but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to the album on a regular day. It has some gems like Perfect Illusion, Million Reasons and Hey Girl (fight me), but unfortunately it also has songs like Come To Mama and John Stain on it... More enjoyable than ARTPOP but way below the quality of The Fame, The Fame Monster, Born This Way and Chromatica.
