The delta variant of the coronavirus appears to cause more severe illness than earlier variants and spreads as easily as chickenpox, according to an internal federal health document that argues officials must “acknowledge the war has changed.”

The document is an internal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention slide presentation, shared within the CDC and obtained by The Washington Post. It captures the struggle of the nation’s top public health agency to persuade the public to embrace vaccination and prevention measures, including mask-wearing, as cases surge across the United States and new research suggests vaccinated people can spread the virus.

The document strikes an urgent note, revealing the agency knows it must revamp its public messaging to emphasize vaccination as the best defense against a variant so contagious that it acts almost like a different novel virus, leaping from target to target more swiftly than Ebola or the common cold.

I think covid will last for years because a lot of people are still refusing to get vaccinated and we will not reach herd immunity. Also, Pfizer is considered one of the best vaccines but research shows that even with this vaccine, immunity to covid may start to die after 6 months of being fully vaccinated. Then you can still get serious illness and spread it easier. And then we are going to have to convince people to get booster shots every year. I feel like that might be a whole other issue and many people will refuse.

yet we have to acknowledge that if being vaccinated it is very likely to only have symptoms similar to the flu. Number of new infections shouldn't be a paramater for measurements anymore, number of hospitalizations and ICU patients should be the new standard of considering new restrictions

A virus spreading like other viruses…? Say it ain’t so!! We should start rolling out testing sites for chicken pox and pneumonia so we can update everyone daily on the cases.

I wish we could just stop the world, put everything on hold, make the vaccines mandatory, and make everyone stay inside. We have to stop worrying about money and **** and focus on the health of our people. 
 

On the flip side, I’m really over the back and forth, wishy washy **** going on with these rules and regulations. Either let natural selection take its course or actually do something. Purgatory isn’t for me

The only reason i think numbers need to he controlled a bit too tho is because large numbers also mean higher chance of major new variants...

 

Major new variants means higher chance of vaccine not working at all against one of them and killing many ppl

 

Ppl say that as long as were all vaccinated total cases dont matter because we wont be in hospital but i feel thats seriously over simplifying matters

 

Theres also the fact that even if vaccine updates to counter any serious new variants could become available immediately supply still isnt at the point that many Countries would be able to get it fast

 

So we gotta think about those things. I dont think were at the point where we can say total cases dont matter anymore

Not the same at all. One is causing a pandemic rn still overrunning hospitals on and off with each wave. Those viruses u listed are not

Which means, DON’T wear a cloth mask, wear a KN95! If you are vaxxed and don’t live with or see unvaxxed people or anyone at risk you technically don’t have to wear one because you are safe. But if you really don’t want to take your chances to spread it, you should wear a well fitting good quality mask, especially if cases are high.

You may as well shouldn’t go through the burden of wearing a mask if it’s going to be a loose cloth mask or surgical mask because it will really not help.

 

EDIT: Also, if everyone could just get vaccinated we wouldn’t be dealing with these masks anymore. They should be mandated instead of masks but that’s a whole other can of worms…
