Valve just announced the Steam Deck, its long-rumored Switch-like handheld gaming device. It will begin shipping in December and reservations open July 16th at 1PM ET. It starts at $399, and you can buy it in $529 and $649 models as well.

The device has an AMD APU containing a quad-core Zen 2 CPU with eight threads and eight compute units’ worth of AMD RDNA 2 graphics, alongside 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. There are three different storage tiers: 64GB eMMC storage for $399, 256GB NVMe SSD storage for $529, and 512GB of high-speed NVME SSD storage for $649, according to Valve. You can also expand the available storage using the high-speed microSD card slot.

It looks like a break and the sticks belongs to the 90s.. it's horrible. but nice attempt to kill the switch.

It looks like a cheap attempt at mimicking the Switch but with Steam games instead. And at a ridiculous price when 1. it's not worth it 2. it looks tacky 3. it runs games that can be run on a PC (which is a much better investment than a handheld console).

It's a cool concept I guess but I wouldn't buy this at all.

No, but better: you can experience the Industrial Revolution in your hand. Steam Deck™ is the first handheld console able to autonomously produce steam™. Power your Steam Locomotive™ and Steam Machine™ (sold separately) starting at only $399!

Well actually it apparently is a fully functioning computer. You can even install windows in it.

Meaning you can even install a switch emulator and play switch games or do your math homework lol.

I may or may have not fully played Pokemon Sword on a pc switch emulator before :sis:

On one hand it's probably going to have a massive library of games to choose from compared to something like the switch but on the other hand all those games will already be available on PC unlike switch exclusives.

If it performs well I think it might be worth it if you play games on the go a lot.

That's cool actually. But I still wouldn't pay for it tbh. the screen is just too small to pay at least 400$ when I can add some money and get a decent PC that would do the job + more.

Not worth it? It's like a PS5 squeezed into that specs wise(PS4 actually, but 4 times more powerful than Switch anyway), so it's obviously more expensive than Switch.

Well I think the PS5 is also not worth it so:enigma: My problem with this is that it's a small screen for that price + the storage space isn't ideal imo. I would much rather spend that money on a PC
