we did not, back in march almost everyone still thought it would be over by fall. its called hindsight bias

That is simply not true - if you looked at the proper sources and scientific journals and studies you would know this information from the start. If you are from the scientific community you should know exactly where to look and find this information. Whether you choose to believe random medical sources is not my problem

:billie: i guess multiple health ministries around the world are now "random medical sources"
maybe you should get rid of that condescending tone of yours hunty mcbooboo, and post your sources instead

It's so surreal hearing Boris go on about relaxing everything...and then having Patrick and Chris being all gloomy.

God I miss the world pre-covid.

It's the right thing to do in my opinion. We aren't seeing the cases result in large quantities of hospitalisations because of how well our vaccine programme has been going. The uptake was amazing in vulnerable age groups, well into the 90%s if they don't lift them now then they won't lift them at all this year because of winter and the flu.

Then why aren’t you all staying over the summer in your own country?
you can still spread it bc other people still can‘t get a vaccine.

It’s a world’s problem. When will the world start to think solidarily?

The world will never start to think that way. It is what it is. The country I live in has decided to grant us our freedoms. I will enjoy those freedoms and I won't feel bad about it.

US did this WELL before the vaccines and we did okay. You can’t live like this forever. The virus and mutations are here to stay, unfortunately.

It's interesting how the media (and comment sections) change their tune almost overnight. There has been a lot of anger about Covid restrictions not lifting for some time with comments like "why bother getting the vaccine if we are still going to be locked down?" and "it's safe to lift restrictions, covid deaths are at a minimum". Then restrictions get announced to be lifted and it shifts to "it's too early".

I don't envy world leaders throughout this pandemic, they are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

That is weird, UK better keep the mask on if the surge is happening rn regardless of the order. :bradley:

This is merely announcing what in practice has been happening anyway....as people have mostly decided just to get on with their lives. SAGE will always claim it is too dangerous but I do think masks should be kept on public transport.

And on this one point only I agree with Bozo that we need to learn with it, as we do with many other viruses.

That said it's been noticeable that the US has largely abandoned masks and social distancing and seems to be doing fine.

The media in the UK have been very good at conditioning the public with covid scare stories, so will be fascinating to see what they do over the next week

We most certainly did not do ok :selena: the US literally has the most covid deaths in the world :selena: Brazil and India are the only ones even close last time I checked and that's because their vaccine rollouts have been botched.

Though I do agree that the lockdowns are unsustainable. The answer is painfully obvious, people need to get their goddamn vaccines :madge: Everyone needs to follow France's example imo.

Literally 99% of covid deaths in the US now are people who haven't been vaccinated and the states that are currently seeing a surge in hospitalizations and deaths are the ones with the lowest vaccination rates.

Whimsical bitch
