Katy Perry is launching non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for fans and has acquired a stake in the blockchain video-delivery network Theta Labs.

Her NFTs will celebrate her “Play” residency

This is the first-ever Las Vegas residency to feature exclusive NFTs commemorating the event.

Katy will have a minority interest in Theta Labs, alongside her talent agency, Creative Artists Agency, which is also one of Theta’s enterprise validators.

Katy Perry said:
“I’m both excited and curious to be launching my first ever NFTs later this year with Theta Network.” “This is a new, unique opportunity to connect with my fans around the world even if they aren’t with me in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to dive in with the Theta team on all the exciting and memorable creative pieces, so my fans can own a special moment of my residency that’s both a digital collectible as well as an IRL experience.”

I still don't understand the purpose of NFTs and they seem like rich people nonsense.

BUT, from what I do know, are they really the type of thing that is worth advertizing months in advance?

Depends.

NfTs are like the art that you can't touch.

NFTs are designed to give you something that can't be copied: ownership of the work (though the artist can still retain the copyright and reproduction rights, just like with physical artwork). To put it in terms of physical art collecting: anyone can buy a Monet print...., or says you own the picture of the sneakers, which can still be copied, shared, printed and hung on the wall by anyone who wants to do so. But only one person can own the original.

A URL basically.

When people buy an NFT they're not even buying the digital asset (Song, picture, model) You're buying a link to the "original". All the copyright still remains with the uploader.

A lot of it is just money laundering and crypto-bros trying to make a quick buck. A lot of celebs also hopped on the NFT train for money.

I will say though, I give her credit for choosing a coin that's got less of an environmental impact but still NFTs have a long way to go before I could get behind them.

Yes it is, the "ownership" is often the drive in sales that caused it to sold for Millions.

Hi thanks for explaining, however I’m confused about the environmental impact part. How does NFT impact the environment?
