Australia's Prime Minister Scott Morrison was convening an emergency COVID-19 meeting with state and territory leaders Monday afternoon, as outbreaks of the highly contagious Delta variant saw restrictions return across the country.

An outbreak in Sydney linked to the highly contagious Delta variant has grown to 128 cases.  Cases have also been recorded in the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.   Officials say it is a "critical time". Australia has kept case numbers low with border closures and lockdowns.

This is the first time in months that cases have emerged in multiple parts of Australia simultaneously. Some 18 million Australians, roughly 70% of the population, are now under some form of pandemic restriction

It's a bit of a joke how long the government has taken to roll out vaccines, really hope this is the final nail in the coffin for Scomo. :wtf:

Meh I hope they put everybody in quarantine and put really hard quarantine to people travelling to Australia.
I know it sucks for australians who just wanna live freely but 2/3 weeks quarantine > months of virus.

Cus if they were free of Covid for so long it means it keeps coming back because of travellers...

Are they not pushing for vaccinations? Or is there a delay?

Until April, the government had relied upon AstraZeneca to be its main jab vaccinating the nation. Local labs were set up to churn out its production.
But when reports emerged of syndromes linked to the vaccine, the government advised people under 50 to take a different vaccine.
The catch was that Australia only had 1 other vaccine - the Pfizer shot - in significantly smaller quantities. The government has promised there will be enough supplies of Pfizer or other vaccines, like Moderna and Novovax, by the final quarter of the year.

toda they allowed all Australian adults to get the AstraZeneca vaccine if they want it
Anyone under 40 who is not yet eligible for a Pfizer vaccine is now able to go to their GP and receive the AstraZeneca vaccine if their doctor gives medical approval source

Its not funny anymore. The main scientists in italy were saying the vírus is losing is getting weaker some months ago. The viral load had descresed, but the delta variant is spreading so much already. I dont understand if This changes the virus survival

It’s mainly spreading, at least here in the US, because of unvaccinated people and the areas where there are low vaccination rates are hit the hardest.
