World-wide-web creator Sir Tim Berners-Lee sold the NFT to an unidentified buyer, through auction house Sotheby’s. The profits would go towards causes chosen by Sir Tim and his wife, Sotheby’s said. NFTs are certificates of ownership for digital assets, which often do not have a physical representation. They do not necessarily include copyright control - and critics say they are get-rich-quick schemes that are bad for the environment. source Father of the Web - Tim Berners-Lee is planning to auction the World Wide Web's original source code as an NFT. The Sotheby's-run auction will include almost 10,000 lines of code (including HTML, HTTP and URI), original explanatory web pages, a visualization of the code, a letter from Berners-Lee discussing the significance and a code "poster" built with Python. The auction for the world wide web NFT — titled “This Changed Everything” — will be run by Sotheby’s in London from June 23-30, with bidding starting at $1,000. The proceeds of the auction will benefit initiatives that Berners-Lee and his wife support It's an unusual move for Berners-Lee, who famously refused to patent web technology and has long been an advocate of giving internet users more control.
