Mass Grave of 215 Indigenous Children Found in British Columbia, Canada

At least 215 bodies of Indigenous children have been discovered in an unmarked mass grave at the former site of the Kamloops Residential School in Kamloops. British Columbia, Canada.

The true horrors of these residential schools have only been revealed in the last decade following the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Of course Canada’s Indigenous people have known of these horrors for as long as Canada has been a country. Officially, only around 50 children were documented to have died here, clearly that was a gross underestimation.

The fact that the government only issued and apology and nothing more is DISGUSTING

If 215 bodies of white children were found on the grounds of a boarding school.... something tells the government would offer up more than thoughts and prayers...

This is absolutely horrible. It's heartbreaking to think how many more genocides of indigenous people have gone unnoticed and are waiting to somehow be uncovered sooner or later. And the fact that this is barely making any noise... Colonialism is still alive and well.

So what should Canda do about colonialism?

This is indescribably horrible... may their murderers not be resting in peace

The fact that a couple of centuries from now there will be similar discoveries of genocide evidence happening today, and people will feel disgusted and question how we let it happen... and yet people keep turning a blind eye.

Issue an apology on this issue first, offer resources to help the community pay their respects to the children and grieve properly, implement a comprehensive education curriculum teaching our students about the history of Indigenous people and the sh*t our government put them through rather than focusing on glorifying colonialists like Samuel de Champlain, take missing Indigenous women cases seriously with the time and effort they deserve, address drinking water issues on reservations that have spent years consuming polluted and unsanitary water.

Just to name a few.

I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas.

I agree with all those thing not just for Canada but all colonial countries. Also for the US like George Washington was a slave teeth pulling bastard.

These situations are interesting. It is horrible but I also wonder why the human brain cannot care as much about other races as they do about their own. I wonder if the human brain only cares about something or people they can relate to and in this case, it's race.

I wish human nature wasn't like this and I wish humans could relate to each other more.

Anyway, Canada, do more, please.

May those pour souls rest in peace.

No wonder these countries support other fellow settler states who commit genocide and ethnic cleansing.

I went to elementary and high school in Ontario from 1990-2003... I don't ever remember of learning that residential schools even existed, let alone the horrors that happened within their walls. The last of these schools were only closed in 1996! I really hope kids growing up today at the very least are taught about this. We learned in great detail about genocide, specifically the Holocaust and cast judgement on that... meanwhile, Canada had its own cultural genocide happening in our backyard.
