But Shallow reached more views in a much shorter time, they’re both big but I feel like Shallow has accomplished much more in its first 3 years than bad romance did

Again, you can't compare 2009 views to 2019 views.

Gaga will literally NEVER outdo Bad Romance. never.

In terms of units sold she already did, Poker Face is her biggest single

Bad Romance and Shallow were both released in the YouTube era :neyde:

Streaming was not a thing back then, is not comparable. Only bad romance video out-iconiqued shallow, imagine the song itself. Both songs were big, but lets not pretend that bad romance is less bigger than shallow because is not. Are we going to say sorry is bigger than baby?

Shallow & Bad Romance are close in units sold, with BR being 9 years older, so it’s safe to say that Shallow will win in the end

Hmm... IMO, Shallow was a titan in terms of reach and longevity, and was bigger in that sense, but Bad Romance was bigger for general perception of her look, sound, and style, and its impact on pop culture.

Shallow didn't feel like as much of an overhaul of either Gaga's image or the trend of radio/pop, whereas Bad Romance was more image- and legacy-defining for her. I don't hear people anticipating things like "This song could be Shallow 2.0" as nearly as often as I hear "This song could be Bad Romance 2.0" -- like BR is just THAT b*tch, that standard, that icon.

Just my initial thoughts though, I could be misperceiving things and am open to changing my stance :oprah:

in 2010 i wasn't even a fan of gaga, but the whole internet was euphoric for bad romance, it really was everywhere, it was a cultural reset. shallow wasn't quite like that, it was big but the energy is not the same

The one that changed pop music forever..Bad Romance. Shallow was massive hit, but just that. I dont think it impacted pop culture and set trends the way Bad Romance did.

I think Bad Romance had a bigger impact culturally/historically – it was one of the first HUGE music videos of the YouTube era, and it definitely serves as a bridge between the 2000s and 2010s.

Shallow was definitely the bigger chart hit – spent 68 weeks on the Hot 100 to BR's 43 weeks, and it has literally become one of the biggest streaming hits of all time.

Shallow actually spent 45 weeks on the Hot 100, her longest is Just Dance with 49 weeks

Sometimes I can't believe that we stan an artist with TWO of the most awarded songs of ALL TIME.

Iconic behavior.

Shallow had a massive audience, awards, pop culture impact, streaming #s, etc. Everyone from grandmas to kids knew the song, and it still gets referenced on occasion (I was watching some late night show not that long ago and it was referenced). That said, if we're talking purely on a pop cultural level, specifically in relation to pop music, BR is a bigger song.

I'd actually argue though that while it doesn't have the streaming/sales # Born this Way has had a far more significant pop cultural impact than Shallow or BR (even with the Madonna controversy).

Bad romance is bigger for now, shallow might surpass it in a few years. Poker Face will always be Gaga’s biggest hit. It’s at 20m pure sales alone 💀
