HuffsAhoy 7,433
I'll say again.... this is why American society will never respect the LGBT community. They preach tolerance but exclude people for no reason. But again, I'm not surprised. Some of the most disgusting attitudes I've heard had thrown at me in life were from NYC (and other city gays). You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

What more these whiny queens wants? Some gay men love to live in a state of perpetual victimhood....no wonder we're all seen as a bunch of weak wimps You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love. Bebe 17,289
Do people here not get that the police will still be there to "direct traffic" and ensure "good order" because of course the city will have police present at such a large event. What they won't allow are police participating in Pride and why should they? At the end of the day Pride is a protest. Why should police be allowed to march in the parade when there is so much violence directed towards LGBTQI people? (Especially Trans people and LGBTQIPOC). All over the world politicians and leaders where banned from Pride for not supporting Gay Marriage and that made complete sense. Why should the police be represented in Pride when, as an institution, they target, harass and murder LGBTQI people? An inclusive Pride is a pride that recognises the diverse issues faced by each letter of the LGBTQI community and unifies to protest against the injustice they face. That includes protesting against police violence, police harassment and police brutality and it includes not allowing the institution of the police to represent themselves as allies while targeting members of our community. A lot of white gays got gay marriage and then seem to turn a blind eye towards the issues faced by our most vulnerable members. This also isn't about individual LGBTQI cops or allies, it has nothing to do with painting each cop with the same brush, it is to do with the institution. It is the fact that: - 21% of Black trans women will face incarceration at least once in their lifetimes - It is the high rates of sexual assaults and violence reported against trans women by police - It is the fact that a trans woman can be, and routinely are, arrested in NYC for having a condom in their purse - It is the killing of trans women at the hands of police and the deaths in custody being far higher than the general population - It is NYC police housing prisoners according to their sex as assigned at birth, leaving them vulnerable to violence and sexual assault. Why should an institution responsible for all of the above be represented as allies at Pride?
