HuffsAhoy 7,433
Great timing for this thread because I was listening to ARTPOP on the way to the lake today. Like you, I did not particularly care for it when it was released initially. I think a lot of my distaste for the album stems from a lot of the mental anguish Gaga went through during its rollout period (compounded by own issues) and the fact that I way overplayed the Swinfest Demos in the lead-up to the release day. I still think it's an overrated album and certainly nowhere near the claim she made as "album of the millennium", but every time I'm in the mood to let loose and feel good, I find myself turning to ARTPOP. Does it have some gems? 100%, the first four songs are God-tier. But it personally doesn't hold up to the prior three albums (or the two follow-ups) in terms of quality and daringness for me. For me, ARTPOP is very much her Hard Candy. Sticky and sweet in some spots, but filled with too many sour candies to satisfy my cravings. To this day, I think if ARTPOP had been a follow-up to The Fame, I would have enjoyed it way more than as her 'grand' comeback after the abrupt end of the Born This Way era. I also think that had the rollout not been so ruined by Troy Carter, it could have had its time to shine. TL/DR: I enjoy the album but it is definitely ranked 6/6 for me. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
Greg August 143
such an underrated piece of art... since Gaga revealed the title i was super hyped and when the era started i couldn't love it more! it kinda makes me sad because we only have two "ARTPOP" videos, which are awesome, but there was so much potential for other songs as singles... but i understand what Gaga was going through so i support her i think general public and even some little monsters just couldn't completely understand her vision at the time, it was probably ahead of its time, and also the whole era was influenced by media comparing Gaga to some other popstars
PxA limited 741
It’s pure adrenaline. I love that album and makes me sad that it has been dealt a bad hand
Delulu Rogers 7,072
The album is amazing but it does have it's flaws. JnD should never have made it and she should have kept sex dreams and ARTPOP more like the iTunes versions. She also made it to confusing for people when the message is actually quite simple to understand. And of course at that point ppl thought gaga was to gay to be mainstream and she was competing with Katy and Miley while she was literally getting vomited on... Anyways, it's a great album and it's her most intelligent concept. The fashion and performances were the best from any era of hers.

Jay.P 2,331
It's a solid album, I just wish she was able to execute all her plans for the era. It had so much more potential. Do you hear that? It's poison.

Starmie25 15,110
Half of ARTPOP could easily fit in the PC music/hyperpop scene with have these days. It's honestly true - Aura, title track, Mary Jane, Sexxx Dreams etc. It's more than just "EDM NOIZE" "One second it's DATED then suddenly it's ahead of its time" lol

She should’ve kept Swine itunes version cause the album one is literal death for the ears and the brain with all of that dkdkdkdkdkdk. J&D adds to album’s diversity I wouldn’t get rid of it. But the fashion and performances, come on lol. We all know everything was a complete chaos with few hits here and there and the concept literally fell apart cause she was going through horrible things at the time. Her vmas and amas performance for ARTPOP are so loved! Her performance with the muppets, rupaul, xtina, snl, gma were great. There was even the artrave launch party which was amazing. And her fashion was so artistic and fun! All her eras follow a certain look or theme but ARTPOP fashion was always so different, unique and crazy even for her standards. As the time went by the era and Gaga herself got messier and messier. I guess everything she was going thru was all showing on the outside. For me, I will always love the era even if it was very childish, lacked style and aesthetic that Gaga is known for. But I just can't compare it to previous ones that were far better by any standard.
