First of all I do not appreciate the insinuation that I am disobeying the rules. I have already stated that I've been returning to enjoying things that I did before safely; which includes appropriate social distancing and wearing masks whenever I am around people outside my bubble. There are countless examples of places that are enforcing and following CDC guidance than there are those not; everyone just focuses on the negatives. I am fully supportive of laxing restrictions so long as things like masks, capacity limits, and social distancing are still observed. I am not a proponent of what we are seeing in Texas, South Carolina, and other states. In North Carolina we have been in phrase three of re-opening since the latter part of 2020 and our cases have been declining slowly since the end of January. Our governor eased some restrictions about two weeks ago based on science. Masks and social distancing are still required everywhere and capacity restrictions are still in place. This is the type of approach all states should be taking, not these draconian measures found in California. Additionally, there is no evidence to indicate that outdoor locations like theme parks contribute to the spread of covid. Recently, it was even revealed the Super Bowl was not the super-spreader event that many feared it would be. There are studies coming out, though they have not been peer reviewed fully, indicating that strict lockdown measures did not contribute to slowing the spread as much as initially thought. The pandemic began a year ago and it is time to start moving forward with re-building society. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love. I had an absolute ball in Orlando over New Years Eve at SeaWorld, Disney, two gay bars, and the beach all while adhering to CDC guidance. If masks and social distancing work, lockdowns are not needed. 8 minutes ago, PartySick said: We do so from a place where some of us can't afford to even get a cough checked out in this stupid country, let alone get treatment for a virus that's killed half a million people in the US alone and gave millions more a new "prexisting condition". Forcing businesses to stay closed is an act of privilege. Millions of people have been forced into near poverty because their places of work have been shuttered for months. The unemployment benefits in this country are so horrendous that some have gone without a paycheck for nearly a year. This does not even begin to scratch the surface of the problems lockdowns have caused for those with families. Childcare prices are through the roof, rents continue to skyrocket, and people (especially those in the service industry) don't have enough money to cover even the most basic necessities because of lockdowns. If we had a better government, sure, I'd be more willing to keep things restricted but they have shown over and over again they are unwilling to help. Perhaps you should spend this weekend thinking about someone other than yourself. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

You don't pass the burden of those people not getting paid on to others who are just trying to keep themselves and their loved ones alive. You're worried about them paying their bills? Tell our elected officials to get off their asses and pass some relief for them. Don't send them back to work in unsafe conditions. 29 minutes ago, HuffsAhoy said: Perhaps you should spend this weekend thinking about someone other than yourself. The irony. Much more important than my grandparents' lives. At the end of the day, we're talking about a government decision to open up or a government decision to support people who are hurt by closures. If you don't support the latter first, I find that problematic. Whimsical bitch

ThisGuyTony 34,865
It does seem too soon to reopen. However, they seem adamant about reopening so at least they’re making an effort to maintain social distancing with the 15% capacities.

Anyone who champions continued shut downs does so from a place of immense privilege. If the science everyone demands we believe is accurate then so long as mask wearing, social distancing, and other safety measures are followed what is the big deal. I have been eating out, going to breweries, shopping, doing everything I used to (except bars) over the last few months without incident. If you want to continue sealing yourself off from the world, fine. But you have zero right to demand the rest of the world follow suit. This x 1000. We’ve done everything right. We are letting folks 65+ get the vaccine first, we follow the mask mandates. We need to live our lives. We have to go out and do stuff safely. I’ve been going to all the local restaurants to support them with my biz. I also qualified for the vaccine because of my work. im fully vaccinated, I want to go to Disney and have fun, of course wearing a mask. But the time has come for folk to start doing stuff safely. I'm not trying to get nasty with anyone but this sh*t's been driving me up the wall for a year now, scared to death of killing someone close to me because I work for a living and support not only myself but my grandparents. Only my grandma is healthy enough to get vaccinated. For a YEAR my nerves have been fried worrying about bringing this sh*t to them or to my best friend's cancer patient mother, or to my elderly neighbors that I help out. But I still work nearly every day while other people piss and moan about masks or plastic dividers or not being able to go out. But it really takes the cake when these are my concerns and I'M called selfish for thinking bars, parks, etc can stay closed until we have a real handle on this that amounts to more than "hey less than a thousand people died yesterday " Whimsical bitch

My friends that used to work at Disney are desperate to go back to work, they lost their health insurance, they barley make it with unemployment, they actually want to go back. Disney is not forcing anyone, the opposite they have so many people that want to work, Waldy they have cut so many workers permanently. I’m just saying, you have to also understand the other side of the story.

Finally someone with common sense in this thread. To be frank, I have no issue with people who choose to stay inside to protect their vulnerable loved ones. I start to have a problem when they try to ruin my life by taking away everything I enjoy. Nobody is forcing them to venture out in public. I've got friends that got laid off at Disney and the KSCVC and they had to find new jobs. But I still stand by what I said though. Literal lives come before livelihoods. If the government is going to step in and make a decision, it needs to be one that supports those people and keeps restrictions in place rather than saying "to hell with it" and opening everything up.
