I get why this deal sounds like a generally proper idea at first glance, when you're trying to address an entire huge country at once full of a variety of local economies, but there are always edge cases or strange situations and my heart goes out to them.

This. Overpaying people who may not have as great of need is better than leaving out struggling people.

In Seattle, if you make $75k and live alone, up to 50% of your salary is likely going to rent alone.

I disagree. If we're going to get votes by telling people their vote = a $2000 check, it's hella shady to use technicalities to reach that number. And worse yet to then decide not everyone gets it that got it before, AFTER the elections. It's breaking a campaign promise and there are going to be Dem voters that feel betrayed and may be less likely to vote the same next time, or vote at all.

The people in here saying people who make $75k are rich, I make $72k and am nowhere near “Rich”. I don’t need the stimulus money but of course I’m going to take it

Yeah I don’t see why someone making over 100K would need a stimulus check in the first place lol.

my mom got a stimulus check and literally gave it away to someone else who needed it, we should be giving more money to those who need it and not huge checks to people who don’t need them.

 

Granted I do see a purpose to it, hopefully the people who get those checks who don’t need them put them into the economy but that’s not always the case

$75K is not rich wtf. Most people with college degrees usually make $50K+ in a comfortable position which is considered middle class.

It was passed mid January by the senate. The $2000 was block by McConnell in December. Get your dates right.

Correct. But the $600 was for sure coming yet they still ran on $2,000 checks.

I find it laughable that these 16 year olds on this site want to dictate what’s a “liveable” income and what isn’t. $75k in California will allow you to live comfortable, but barely. Factoring in health insurance, car, bills, rent, and student loans ($1000+ per month of just student loans), you barely have any money left to put in your pocket.

based on old earnings. there is no way to do this without leaving people behind. If people are rich they pay more taxes so them getting a check doesn't have as big of an impact as you think it does.
