Karaoke singer fined for torturing neighbours with ABBA and Dolly Parton

A “terrible” karaoke singer has been fined $3,828 (£2,748) by a London council after torturing neighbours with his renditions of ABBA and Dolly Parton hits.

Jason, 50, triggered 150 complaints with regular parties at his Romford home.

Noise officers said they received specific complaints about renditions of Dire Straits’ Sultans of Swing, New Order’s Blue Monday and Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s Islands in the Stream booming from the home.

Jason was visited 4 times by enforcement teams between June 2019 and February 2020 and was repeatedly warned to turn his music down before being taken to court.

He was prosecuted by Barking and Dagenham council under the Environmental Protection Act and has been ordered to pay £2,748 in fines plus costs and a victim surcharge.

A neighbour, said: “It has been a nightmare. I dreaded Saturday nights. It was so loud and his singing was terrible.”
