When you don't have royals, you have president, who is in parlamentary republic also just a drain on taxpayer's money. Royals are educated and trained whole life to be a good representatives, so they respresent the country well. However, every populist can end up being president and then embarass whole nation around the world.

Presidents can be a drain but they are always accountable. The Queen and her family is not accountable to the British people. They live in their life of luxury and we have to treat them like they are Gods, the Royals do not represent us well - Prince Andrew. They need to be flung onto the street

Unaccountable for what though? They do nothing wrong they do a lot more good with charitable duties and the commonwealth, they aren't a drain on tax payers, they generate far more income than what they cost. They have all voluntarily paid tax since 92. I'm not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination. But your being hateful without the facts.

As for Phillip visiting his dying dad, well rules changed a while back and you're allowed to visit dying family in certain circumstances. No rules were broken. Youre being pedantic, because you hate the royals.

Unaccountable for the voters, we can’t vote them out because they are the royal family. It’s kind of f***ed up that in this day in age we have people in a democracy that is unaccountable, it’s extremely undemocratic. I still stand by my point, when the Queen dies millions will be plunged into a funeral for her which is unfair for the taxpayers, yet again, unaccountable to the average person.
When I opened this thread I thought that hospitals were not allowing visitors

But they don't hold any tangible power, they're nowadays literally just a figure head, they aren't responsible for creating laws and bills,  democratically they do not effect you one iota. Infact you will be worse off if they were gone because of the sheer amount of revenue the generate for the UK. Were better off with them than without them. That's a fact.

The Queen could still fire the Prime Minister, dissolve parliament. It makes common sense to have those leading the country to be elected. I’ll always advocate for an elected head of state.

It absolutely would not happen and you know it. It is there for show. And the ones leading the country are elected. :saladga:

The Queen still has that power. The Prime Minister is only PM at “Her Majesty’s pleasure”. When the union breaks up, the royal family should be dumped and the royal family houses should be used for tourism.

Omg, you know that that is just there for traditions sake. And you're again being pedantic because of your hatred.

She has power that will never ever ever be used. And you know it. You're arguing over nothing. I'm not discussing it anymore because you clearly want to get hung up on one small piece of fine print that everybody knows isn't a tangible power that they would ever weaponise. The royal family aren't going anywhere so get over it.

Still, she has the power. Sooner we get rid of this “special” family, sooner the better.

You don't want to be part of the UK why should you have a say on whether we keep the Monarch of the UK.

Focus on your divisive independance fight instead and don't complain about people visiting sick relatives on Gagadaily. This aint the place.

As others have pointed out, the good they do for charities, the commonwealth, inspiring generations, tourism etc far outweighs their cost. If in the future this isn't the case then there will be a case for removing the monarchy. Until then, live your life, don't dictact how others should live, Thanks

The royal family literally generates over 1 billion a year for us. If we didn’t have a royal family, we’d lose a lot of revenue.

The “power” is just for show, she wouldn’t fire any PM or dismantle government. Yes she does have that power but no she’ll never use it. It’s all just part of legacy I guess? Hence the new PM drives to the palace and “asks” her to form a government. It’s not that deep tbh just theatrics.

Phillip is turning 100 years old in a matter of months and he’s been ill before. I think it’s clear he is dying and Charles was literally visiting his dying father. It’s up to the discretion of the care home or hospital. My nan died two weeks ago and my mum and dad where aloud to visit her during the final hours with the permission of the care home as she was dying. I wasn’t aloud to go see her but my parents were. He did nothing wrong so I don’t know why there’s so much fuss around it?

What I don’t understand is the hate around the royal family. Now a days they are just figure heads for us. This notion they will have all this power is ridiculous. They don’t impact our lives as much as the government does and the only time you hear about them is on social media, newspapers and now Netflix.
