Australia wants tech giants like Facebook and Google to pay for the content reposted from news outlets. The social media giant said the proposed law "fundamentally misunderstands the relationship between our platform and publishers". Under its new rules, Facebook said Australian users would not be able read or share news content on the platform, while Australian news publishers would be restricted from sharing or posting any content on Facebook pages. Interesting that Facebook can block access to and the spread of real news when they believe itâs advantageous to their profit margin but canât do the same with fake news, conspiracies and misinformation  *I should mention Iâm not a fan of the proposed law brainstormed by Rupert Murdoch and his cronies, however I do think the threats and actions Google and Facebook have made make the unreasonable level of influence and power they have even more blindingly obvious. You can still discuss topics youâre aware of to spread awareness and then do your own research at actual, reputable news outlets online. If you can navigate indecently to Facebook, you can probably do the same for a reliable news source online. Besides, not that Iâm an ally of big tech by any means (the opposite actually), they are private corporations at the end of the day and can control whatever content they want. We choose to relinquish certain rights to use their products, and that experience can very in different areas.
