UK Prime Minister blames China's traditional medicine for Covid pandemic

Boris Johnson is in no place to start randomly blaming other people and cultures when we're currently in our THIRD national lockdown, caused mainly by the incompetence of him and his cabinet.

This man needs to go. He is clearly not a professional.

ignore that person. They’ve many times downplayed covid and at the same time used it as an excuse to be a racist prick.

If you think one man, one group of individuals (government) can prevent deaths in a pandemic you demand way too much. Nobody has figured out a way to fight this virus, the truth is that whatever decision you make, it's never the right one. Open schools, people complain about lack of social distancing, close schools, people complain they can't go to work and leave their kids home or feel they are isolated from the world with mental health issues rising. Open restaurants, people complain about the coronavirus cases, close restaurants, people complain that they are losing their jobs. Lockdown everything, people complain they can't find a job, open up, people complain about death tolls. Close your borders, people complain they can't visit their loved ones or do business, open your borders, people blame you for this new variant emerging. There is no real good answer ever. Every government right now is bad at their job, that's just a fact and I wonder what you wouldve done as Prime Minister to prevent deaths and turn it into a 0% death toll. Boris Johnson is a moron, there's no doubt about it, but let's not think that it's a simple job right now to deal with this virus

But lets be real here - had Boris actually acted sooner and been more stricter there would be far fewer deaths and people getting infected than there is now. Not saying we expect zero deaths, but certainly a lot less

I agree with this and Macron in France is just as bad trust me. But I also don't think any decision could ever be the right one, we always gonna have negative consequences sadly

There is no xenophobia or racism, and I know only a small minority engage in these traditional medicine practices. But Boris is still right - maybe he should have worded it better. But he is not wrong. It was caused by an imbalance with man and nature. China have been warned by scientists for decades (since SARS in fact) to stop ****ing with bats and pangolins, due to them being microbial reservoirs, with a heightened risk of transmitting zoonotic viruses. There's scientific study articles in journals warning of this dating back years ago. China can be applauded for containing the virus - they're natural mask-wearers too and highly surveilled by their government. But at the end of the day, accountability lays with them, or the small minority. Wet markets are back open again (shock!), the CCP likely changed their true covid-19 death numbers (i reckon way more died than they reported considering the SO2 emissions above and around Wuhan. They probably topped the US death toll)

He does. I'm not a Tory, but he is unfortunately, not wrong. He isn't talking about his country, he's talking about the origin of the virus. A very separate issue, and we're going to hear a lot more about this soon when WHO starts investigating the epidemiological origin of the virus this month. China will have definitely covered a fabricated and covered up a lot of details by now. Too little, too late.

He had a simple job way back last March lockdown, he locked down far too late, our cases started to spread like wild fire in February but he wanted to go for herd immunity which wiped a lot of the population out, he never closed the borders, until maybe June/July people were able to walk into the country and not have to self isolate. His Government rushed the lockdown open again and introduce a scheme - EOTHO which people rushed to restaurants and cases started to rise then yet again lockdown too late whilst at the mean time people were still be able to walk out of a plane and into the country. He has a Track and trace app which does not work in England.

His whole performance throughout the pandemic has been nothing short of criminal

I would agree with that if this were back in March last year. But we've had this virus for almost a year now, and if there is anything that we should have learned from this virus, it's that we can never wait around for more definitive data before we act. This virus is highly transmissible, highly infectious, and deadly. The UK knew about the new variant since November but did nothing until the middle of December. That's too long.

You need to act as if you have the virus, or you know someone that does. The correct course of action should have been a fullwide UK lockdown from the middle of November until the middle of January, with travel completely locked down, and schools/colleges/Universities closed. We have to act as soon as possible with tough measures, otherwise you'll end up with a big mess like we are in now. And the UK Government didn't do that

he should have yes, because what he said was racist. lol. If he meant that we need to regulate wet markets & other man-animal industries to reduce the risk he should've said that. But he didn't.

He is speculating at best.

He is neither a virologist nor an epidemiologist. He really needs to sit down and stop talking.

While it's LIKELY that the virus evolved and spread from bats to humans, it isn't known whether there were intermediate hosts or how exactly it managed to spread from bat to human.

Also it's just dumb luck that the chicken, cow, etc mass farms we use for meat haven't produced the next pandemic. Stop being racist as hell.

Not really, though.

Livestock animals like chickens and cows have been domesticated by humans over hundreds of years and are isolated from the outside world/other species for the most part (for better or for worse).

Wet markets and wildlife markets, like the one is Wuhan that started the COVID-19 pandemic, are really different and much less sanitary, often involving different live species stacked on cages on top on each other is horrible conditions where blood, puss, and feces spreads freely to animals in cages belows (which is how scientists believe COVID-19 jumped from bats to pangolins potentially). These markets in China also started the SARs epidemic.

Still, I think Boris is wrong in blaming traditional/eastern medicine. The rich elite in China, and the chinese government, are responsible for keeping these markets open rather than shutting them down like the WHO has been begging them to for years.

Not going to stand for any of that actually.

Expecting elected officials to use the full extent of their legislative power to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of the electorate is not a high expectation in a country like the UK, where they use taxpayer money to fund healthcare services.

It's actually very easy to fight the virus. The best way to deal with this virus is the same way you deal with ANY virus. You stay at home, you minimise contavt with others and you leave the house only when it's essential for you to do so. If you develop symptoms, you STAY AT HOME until you are no longer contagious. It is actually very simple and other countries have deal with it well.

Schools are unsafe and need to be shut or they need to vaccinate teachers, teaching assistants, students and school administrative staff as a matter of urgency to ensure they are safe to attend. Yes, there's a tangible effect on mental health, but there's a pandemic on. It's an anxious time for everyone and while people may be suffering in their own way mentally, I would rather suffer and feel isolated than catch a virus that would flood my lungs and drown me.

Economic damage can be, and absolutely should have been, mitigated by the government. That is their job. It is precisely their shoddy handling of the pandemic that has led to economic damage and employment issues. Yes, people have to work and get paid and it's awful that people can't get paid because of the pandemic but ultimately, there's a pandemic and restaurants aren't safe.

Other governments have handled this much better than the UK Government. It isn't about me thinking I could have done better, it's about expecting the man the country elected to do better himself as he's had months to do better and STILL keeps messing up.

Stay Home > Protect the NHS > Save Lives

It's easy.

The Government hasn't empowered the police to enforce this lockdown, which is why people keep breaking rules. The Police should have been enforcing this from day one, but that power only comes from Whitehall. Boris Johnson has continuously prioritized money over people.

They are also a police state which rather helps to enforce the rules
