A World Health Organization (WHO) team has arrived in the Chinese city of Wuhan to start its investigation into the origins of the Covid-19 pandemic after months of negotiations.

A group of 10 scientists is set to interview people from research institutes, hospitals and the seafood market linked to the initial outbreak.

The team's arrival on Thursday coincides with a resurgence of new coronavirus cases in the north of the country, while life in Wuhan is relatively back to normal.

They will undergo two weeks of quarantine before beginning their research, which will rely upon samples and evidence provided by Chinese officials.

Experts from the World Health Organization are due to arrive in China this week for a long-anticipated investigation into the origins of the coronavirus pandemic, the government said Monday.

The experts will arrive on Thursday and meet with Chinese counterparts, the National Health Commission said in a one-sentence statement that gave no other details.
Negotiations for the visit have long been underway.

China initially banned WHO experts from entering the country last week at the last minute, sparking accusations of a cover-up.  Members of the international scientific team departing from their home countries had already started on their trip as part of an arrangement between the WHO and the Chinese government but Chinese officials have not  finalised the necessary permissions.

Extremely suspicious that they only just now let them enter.

Also, here's hoping nothing happens to those experts. Most (if not all) governments can be scary when wanting to hide evidences that go against them.

Inb4 a new virus comes up after this visit :triggered: I remember people were blaming China for the pandemics at the beginning but now I wonder why China government can't contribute for researchs to prevent new viruses to appear in the very same conditions that Corona came from. It's not about taking the blame or holding the whole country accountable but it would be nice for it to voluntarily contribute on finding the answers we need.

I think countries in general are getting less and less cooperative and I can only blame the rise of right wing politics

Free speech is questionable there. To have foreigners probing the site for Corona virus will give them bad rep. I've been following some official chinese gov news outlets and they just love to say they are corona virus free and most cases are from tourists. It's like they washed their hands free from this virus.
