No, I wasn’t defending or siding with him (in case that’s what you’re implying). :awkney: It just seems like these actions should’ve already happened a LONG time ago, Biden’s about to be inaugurated in less than 2 weeks. I just thought it was too late for another impeachment, but I suppose it’s not. But don’t these actions usually take a long time anyway??

Also, as someone else said, I don’t believe the tension would die down completely. His supporters will probably take their protests somewhere else other than Capitol Hill.

I was not implying that you supported the insurrection, I was just wondering if you realized how big a deal it is. This absolutely cannot go unpunished and should result in impeachment, especially when it can prevent him from running in 2024. Also, Trump can be impeached after he leaves office, and it’ll be way easier when Dems have full control over the entire government. The slightly raised reactions are worth it. Buildings, can be rebuilt. Democracies, cannot.

do Ossoff and Warnock get a vote?

It’s possible but unlikely Ossoff/Warnock will get a vote when Trump gets impeached (Pence has blocked using the 25th). I’m saying “when”; after Wednesday’s mayhem, there isn’t a Democrat who is going to vote against Trump getting impeached, and there will be a good number of Republicans in the house who will vote along with them.

Keep in mind, for Trump to get convicted, we need a 2/3 vote there. Also, while not technically required by the constitution, norms require there to be a questioning period where witnesses are brought forward. So that will delay things by about a week.

Assuming Georgia gets Ossoff and Warnock in the senate sooner rather than later, and assuming a 50/50 Senate, we need to convince 17 (or is it 16) Republicans that Trump needs to leave office. That’s a hard sell: Voting against Trump like that means they will lose a lot of their base. There are still a lot of people out there in the Cult of Trump out there. They excuse Wednesday’s mayhem with a bunch of Whataboutism concerning the summer riots and claiming (falsely) that no one on the left condemned the looting and violence. [1] [2]

[1] Even Martrin Luther King’s daughter condemned the violence: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/martin-luther-kings-daughter-says-only-way-to-get-constructive-change-is-through-nonviolent-means/ar-BB14QLsG

[2] My answer on Facebook to this Whataboutism is to point out that the BLM protests were about improving things for Black people, while Wednesday’s mayhem was flat out an attempt to overthrow the United States’s constitutional system of democracy and make our country a dictatorship. Apples and Oranges.

I’m amazed that there are talks in invoking the 25th Amendment and even impeachment again, less than 2 weeks from Inauguration Day...... He already conceded too, I mean how necessary would these be?

You do not attempt to overthrow our constitutional system of government and replace our democracy with a dictatorship without there being consequences. When Osama Bin Laden tried to do that on September 11, 2001, there were consequences. Since Trump has tried to overthrow our democracy on January 6, 2021, there must be consequences.

We have to try to get him out of office right away. Should that not succeed, once he is dragged out of the White House on January 20th, we can press charges of treason and sedition against him.

I like being in a free society where the streets are safe to walk at night, where the power is reliable with very few blackouts, where the grocery store is reliably stocked with food, where there is a good school for my daughter to go to, and yes where the people determine by voting who their leaders are. Osama Bin Laden and, yes, Trump, tried to take that away from me.

Whispering

Pence won’t move on the 25th.

Trump will be impeached for the second time, but it’s extremely unlikely that he will get removed. That means he could run again, unfortunately.
