Mexico COVID-19 cases surge after influx of American tourists

To avoid COVID-19 restrictions, many Americans have traveled to Mexico to vacation.
In November, more than half a million Americans traveled to Mexico, The New York Times reported.
The influx has contributed to a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country. Mexico has recently reported new highs in daily cases.

The influx of Americans has been partly due to relaxed restrictions in Mexico While many countries require proof of a negative coronavirus test or a quarantine upon arrival, Mexico does not ask for either.

In late December the Riviera Maya, a region with numerous all-inclusive resorts, had welcomed more American tourists than ever before.
Quintana Roo, where Tulum and Cancun are, had a 23% increase in American visitors compared with 2019 and  about 100 flights from the US were landing in the region every day.

jacs vs looser

The saddest part is that Mexico's public health care system is in really bad shape, so this will severely affect those who can't afford private medical attention the most, aka the poor. All thanks to an incompetent government.

Lockdown of entertainment areas in Puerto Vallarta is designed to discourage travelers from December 25 to January 10. The governor reported that these actions are taken due to the increase in infections.

Mexico should have followed Canada's lead and closed the border to visitors.

I live outside the space time continuum.
