New variant of Covid-19 found in S.E England

"A "new variant" of coronavirus has been identified in the UK, which is believed to be causing the faster spread in the South East, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.

Its spread is growing faster than the existing variant, with over 1,000 cases found, "predominantly in the south of England", Mr Hancock told the House of Commons this afternoon.

There have been reports of the new variant in 60 local authority areas, and it is believed to be similar to that found in other countries over the last few months.

The new variant was officially identified for the first time in Kent last week, with ministers told about it on Friday."

They are unclear if its more deadly yet, but it is spreading faster.

This has been the case since the beginning. different strains or whatever with small differences. All viruses do this. The same vaccines will still work. No need to panic.

Still not a reason to be lackadaisical about things. The vaccine will only work if the covid-19 virus doesn't mutate and change its protein structure. If it turns out this strain is more deadly, then thats a sign that it's changed its structure... 

Its something to bear in mind... Covid-19 isn't something to be taken lightly even though there is a vaccine. Spreading faster means more people are at risk of infection

Yes of course it is important to report however when it's posted on here with just the headline and not the sub-header: 
It is "highly unlikely" the new mutation will not respond to a coronavirus vaccine, Mr Hancock told the Commons today.

It may cause members of this forum to panic too much. Which nobody needs.

But they aren't 100% sure on that yet. Nobody should be panicking, but people should stay alert because its important. Take caution not a panick attack
