RAMROD 109,281
LMAO that is nonsense. Nothing can replace cinema for now. People just need entertainment at home during lockdown right now so these studios need to temporarily adapt. Also the fact that WB movies is only available on streaming in USA exclusively while only available in cinema outaide that region already tell so much that the studio are not willing to give up cinema just yet. Once this pandemic over, people will get back to cinema, live concerts, traveling, and dine out at restaurants again, just watch. As comfy as watching new movie on your couch or bed, nothing can replace the better experience of watching movies in cinemas. Especially when it comes to action packed blockbuster movies. I would've liked to watch that in theatres, but if I can just watch it in the comfort of my own home, why bother? Actually Netflix wanted to buy that movie but MGM won the bid so it’s most probably not gonna go to streaming.

The giant screens, going with friends, popcorn etc Of course it's the same movie if u whatch at home but the experience and atmosphere just isn't the same Imo it's not worth the expensive ticket. When watching a movie at home you can lie down in your comfortable couch and you don't have to deal with annoying people. I went to see Titanic in "3D" back in 2012 and there was some dude behind me who laughed during it. Like wtf? Lose control. Let go and fall. Do you get the satisfaction? If all u care about is the movie it's understandable why a movie ticket isn't worth the cost For me I enjoy the atmosphere and experience of going to a movie theatre especially if I'm going with friends so, for me it is worth it

I don't think this necessarily means they were gonna die tho... What happens is that now there's easy streaming alternatives and a lot of ppl who don't care for the theatre itself basically stop going and others who do enjoy theatres but are not forced to whatch new movies in theatre may go LESS often But for ppl like me who enjoy the atmosphere and experience of a movie theatre (and a lot of people still do) for the foreseeable future they will still be going I think the issue is that since there are now competing alternatives and movie theatres don't have a total monopoly on new releases anymore demand has naturally been reduced and as a result there are now too many locations now in many cities for the amount of demand that has been deminished I think companies to thrive will have to consolidate and reduce the number of locations in many cities perhaps by selling the most unprofitable locations With fewer but profitable locations they can still make business off of people like me who enjoy going to the movies for the experience without running so many locations since ppl who only care about the movie itself are not gonna go anymore and will instead go for the alternatives Basically theatres have to adapt to a specific target audience that appreciates the movie experience and adapt to that now smaller market Also generations change. It may very well be that kids today will not care for this whole experience thing and over the long term theatres will die in general. But that's something that will take many years and not an immediate threat
Guest
To me nothing compares to the experience of going to the theaters. I don't do it to watch just any movie but a movie I'm really interested in and excited for. Yes it's more expensive than streaming. But you get out of your couch, you dress up, you go with your friends, or family or bf/gf, you buy your tickets as the smell of buttered sweet popcorn emanates the room. You sit in a giant room with a giant screen, the lights go out, pitch black, and all your focus goes to the actual movie, you don't even think about checking your phone or speaking. It's the loveliest experience and I really hope it doesn't start to disappear in the future

Where? The fact that 4 or so movies made 1 billion dollars, while one other broke records with $2 billions in USA alone in 2019 doesn't seem like cinemas were facing troubles to me. Also this year, Tenet is still making $350++ millions, making it 3rd biggest grossing movie this year. While the local movie, Demon Slayer, made $ 265 Millions in 45 days in Japan, in the middle of pandemic, helping that movie capsizing Titanic as 2nd biggest grossing movie ever in Japan, and on track to take the 1st position from Spirited Away, and making it 6th biggest grossing movie overall in 2020,also doesn't seem like cinema is facing troubles. Cos let's be real, these movies would gross even bigger without lockdown in place. And then we have Mainland China, who steadily becoming main competition to US movies industry and market, got bilion dollars market in it, and why lots of Hollywood are pandering to them lately. Movies industry are alright, matter of fact it was getting bigger before pandemic caused it to take a halt. If they capped actors pay at 1-2 million then those movies would still exist for a lot cheaper.
