I think people are just looking for reasons to be offended about, just like every Twitter thing. This is just acting and I don't get why suddenly they want actual trans people to portray trans characters, gay people to portray gay characters and so on. I guess it wasn't the best way to respond to criticism but haven't read the whole thing or watched the movie yet, we'll see.

Because trans, black, disabled, etc. people are always at a disadvantage and they have much less opportunities. When movies are made to supposedly empower them and show a "good" image of them, you'd except said movies to practically empower them by giving them the opportunities they lack. Instead they hire people who do not fit the role and who can get cast in 500 other movies and so they take away such opportunities from people who need them.

This. Twitter people are always the first to jump on everyone with their woke stuff when she has been of the most inclusive artists in recent years. They need to watch the movie first before coming up with this bullsh!t.

Seriously, how can one act so entitled? You wanna defend your work, I get it, but it's not like the criticism wasn't legitimate. Just have a discussion about it and communicate your reasons. I don't believe that every gay role has to be given to gay people, all trans roles to trans people etc. but there is in fact an issue with underreprentation. She should just consider having a conversation about it without being this defensive. 
 

Then on the other side it's SJ Twitter being SJ Twitter again, but that's a whole other issue.

It’s pretty ironic for people with the most mild forms of autism imaginable complain about not being offered a role of someone with severe autism.

I do feel bad for her. She talked about how she literally sent it to the leading autism specialists to view her movie and see if there was anything incorrect or offensive. They gave her the green light.

Sia is such a kind hearted person, and ya, maybe she could have had an autistic person do the main role, BUT, she cast her close friend/daughter as the main actor because she knew how compassionate Maddy was as well and that she could tell the story that was necessary.

It's just sad because she's trying to tell a story, and it's getting shut down before people have listened to it. By shutting stuff like this down, these stories DON'T get told, which is extremely sad.

I dunno genuinely see why people might be disappointed that she didn't cast an actual autistic person, but I don't want to see Sia attacked for this. She's so kind.
