What if ARTPOP would’ve been released in 2020?

I do think that a Joanne / Chromatica switch is interesting to think about. Chromatica would have slayed in 2016. Everyone craved popGa at the time. Ariana was rising in popularity. We'd get live performances and could actually experience the music in clubs and with friends. Back then, people complained that there was no main pop girl and that pop music sucked due to the chainsmokers.

Joanne in 2020 would be very fitting. It matches the somber mood of the year (similar to folklore). People aren't partying. The GP would appreciate the album more and it would receive higher critical acclaim because it would be considered a continuation of her successful ASIB era. People would listen to the album in isolation and it would grow on them. Flashy music videos, live performances, a concert tour or a string of hit singles wouldn't be needed.

It already sounded dated in 2013 so imagine in 2020... nothing about this album was ahead of its time

Yeah, it's my favorite album along with Joanne but are y'all seriously saying it'd smash in 2020? :selena:

It would have been a #1 album but I can't see us getting much more out of it than that. Chromatica 2020 outsold ARTPOP 2020.

I'm just like 🧍‍♂️

The media hated Gaga in 2013 and the public was also kinda over her. If she released ARTPOP now then it would have smashed hard cause critics love her again and the public is glued to her due to ASIB

DWUW wouldn't have R.Kelly as a feat and it would SMASH! G.U.Y. and Applause too and punch of other songs :tony:

I think fans like to call it "ahead of it's time" because of how messy and irresponsible it was, and that was Gaga's intention actually. I'm just glad ARTPOP happened very early in her career so she cut ties with Troy and was able to make projects like Cheek To Cheek, Joanne, A Star Is Born and now Chromatica.

A Very Gaga Holida

The era would have been a disaster too obviously, but the album would have done better

I don’t agree... ARTPOP was ahead of its time and gaga even said it herself recently. It has amazing production and the whole project is an experience that ages like fine wine. From lyrical content to the sound it definitely was something that mainstream audiences weren’t ready for

DWUW would never happened. So the era was a success. And brooklyn nights was included on the tracklist
