As the culture shifts in America and smaller big cities become more cosmopolitan and interesting, you will see less and less of this. It’s happening in Texas, AZ and Georgia. The biggest problem with Middle Americans isn’t that they think abortion is murder or that they eat at the Olive Garden for a big night out. Or even how the vote. It’s that they don’t believe there is anything more attainable outside of that. Making fun of them and calling them stupid isn’t the way to change their minds and show them a different past to a world of new ideas. I agree with you to some extent. I think this reasoning could've worked in 2016 (and it did work in 2016), but in 2020, I just don't think that's the case anymore. But now, 4 years later, he is literally the epitome of the establishment. He wanted to "drain the swamp," but he just made it worse. If people still voted for him in 2020 because they thought he was "anti-establishment," then they're just objectively wrong. "Making fun of them and calling stupid isn't the way to change their minds and show them a different past to a world of new ideas." — But when you do try to show them new ideas and new perspectives, many of them just brush it off. This whole "we belong together" rhetoric is exactly what Joe Biden ran on, and he's going to barely win the election. And then if you have more progressive politicians like Bernie or AOC, they'll scream "SOCIALIST!" or "COMMUNIST!" every 10 seconds even though they really don't understand what that means. You can definitely have sympathy for voters. That's something that should be encouraged more, but sympathy can only go so far when you have 68+ million people actively voting for the candidate who's single handedly ruined so much about this country that already was far from perfect to begin with.
