If not Kamala, AOC will be the first woman president of the US. I doubt we'll see AOC in the White House as president before 2032+. Her experience is ramping up and she's kicking ass where she's at. I cannot wait until I can vote her into office, but it'll be a minute. We need to focus on local candidates and elections for the time being to set candidates like AOC up for further future success.

It has nothing to do that she's the youngest person to be elected to Congress. That means she has a LOT of time to go from role to role while carefully maintining her grassroots energy and direct contact with the voters. Then, at around Obama's age in 2008, she can safely run. I think that a Presidency so early is a waste of talent.

This is assuming a Biden/Harris administration will be liked by the American people. If Kamala was unpopular with Democratic voters in 2020, I don't see her being much better in four years. Kamala is just not a popular candidate and America might not be ready for a female president.

Yet you're chanting AOC 2024. The same logic applies to every election. You can't predict a result four years prior to it actually happening because that's impossible. You don't know how she'll be as VP.

A new realigment of US politics needs to happen before a true progressive can win. I do think a left-wing politician can eventually win if the Cold-War generations die and Latinos make a bigger share of the US population. But until then? I don't see it happening.

 

But depending on Republicans returning to normalcy again you guys could try. Even if that candidate loses, the alternative won't be too bad. And we'll finally get to see how such a candidate would perform nationally. And the left would be kept in the Democratic coalition, even if they lose the presidency.

 

But for now, focus on ballot measures!! That's the easiest way to pass progressive policies.

Suggesting that progressives are too unpopular is such a bs argument. Biden barely won the primary against a progressive, and that was with the entire Democratic Party apparatus favoring him and nearly every candidate dropping out at once and coalescing behind him at the right moment, and he is barely winning against the most disastrous president in modern times. If he can barely do it then centrist dems who are becoming more and more like diet Republicans will either fail or win the White House by the skin on their teeth and the Republican Party is becoming too dangerous to let that happen.

How she is as a VP is not going to radically alter the US or it's Overton window. Kamala was unpopular with Democrats in the 2020 Primary and unless something drastic happens her popularity and enthusiasm towards her is not going to change. Meanwhile AOC is currently rising within the Party, and her power is only growing.
