Read my previous posts. You will not win this argument with me. I am educated. I am researched. I refuse to accept your blackwaahing just like I call out whitewashing when it's done.

Not arguing with you tho. Call her however you like, I’m going to sleep

How can we confirm Cleopatra actual skin color anyway? She could be born in Ancient Greece and still be black, who knows.

Just in general too how Egyptians have been under control by other empires for like half of its history :air: The Persian Empire, the Greek Empire, the Roman Empire, the Islamic Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the British Empire. Egyptians never got a break :fatcat:

Maybe it was karma. They were the world power at one point :enigma:

I know there's ambiguity surrounding Cleopatra's racial origins but I feel like this is a wonderful opportunity to cast an actor of color to play the role.

So... what's the difference? If Cleopatra's ethnicity is ambiguous as you say why not let Gaga play it?

Gaga should not get the Cleopatra role. Cleopatra was not a white woman, this film would be very bad for Gaga's image.

Did you learn nothing in history? Cleopatra was from the Macedonian dynasty. Macedonians are Greek people. Greek people are European. Greek people are white, but with darker olive skin. They're still white, same with most Italians.

Gaga fits the role perfectly.

I don't want her anywhere near this. I want her to take on roles that people aren't just going to see as a version of Gaga, like the Countess or just a singer playing a singer in ASIB (she slayed both tho obv)

But to many this would seem like an excuse to just put her in this kind of extravagant costumed figure again. I think the Gucci movie could do her wonders, there's a lot she can sink her teeth into and really show what she can do beyond music or her persona

What’s with Hollywood so often releasing 2 movies with the same/similar theme at the same time? 2 Cleopatra films?

Gaga definitely has the right look despite what some people may think (Cleopatra was of Greek decent If not mistaken)

As much as I would absolutely love this, I don't think that it's a smart move given the current social climate about rightfully pushing for more accurate historical and social portrayals of people of color. And before you come for me, I know that a woman of Gaga's heritage and lineage would be accurate, but the general population believes that Cleopatra was black because she was in Egypt and Egypt is in Africa and of course, Africans are black. We know this isn't the case, but it isn't super clear for most people.

Hmmm, not here for dueling Cleo movies. Was kind of into it when it was just the Denis V version being floated around, but it sounds like Gal & Patty's movie is probably going to be fast tracked. I feel like if this other one comes to fruitation (and even if Denis doesn't withdraw due to the inevitable bomb of Dune) this other one will have to follow their opening act of either backlash, or success. Neither situation is ideal.

Here for her portraying some other cool figure from history (where she won't get backlash) though, like Isabella, She-Wolf of France (despite being from France and exiled, upon returning to the country, raised a whole English army to murder her husband), or Caterina Sforza (even the Vatican was afraid of her) - despite having interesting stories, neither of these ladies have a film about them. Olga of Kiev would be cool too (she had have inspired the character of Daenerys IMO).
