DWUW! Was it really necessary to cut Do What U Want from ARTPOP completely?

I understand the level of controversy surrounding the song due to the R. Kelly feature, but why not just replace the song with the solo version (which I think sounds way better anyway). The song itself had nothing to do with sexual assault topics, it just uses sultry lyrics to convey a message of empowerment.

DWUW is arguably one of the biggest songs on ARTPOP and could of been one of her biggest songs period if she’d done it solo.

(*not a huge fan of the Christina duet)

It’s such a shame it was completely cut cuz from ARTPOP, it leaves a big gap in the album.

OR, having to cut the song entirely presented a fantastic opportunity for her to replace it with a new song! That would have given ARTPOP a bit of justice at least. Shame.

I'm fine, Ta

I agree it should have been replaced with the solo, it's a bit of a wasted opportunity. I'm sure there was things behind the scenes that prevented it though. Perhaps Gaga didn't really feel connected with the song anymore and just wanted it gone.

She was being called out by everyone to speak up about him and who criticized her for working with him.

what she did and said (although a questionable) was definitely the best longterm solution to distance herself from the situation, even solo or Xtina wouldn’t do the same

ARTPOP was already a painful enough time for Gaga and I think she just wanted to move on from it as cleanly as possible

yes, because as a solo song people would have accused her of capitalising on the controversy. Also, the lyrics might just be something she doesn't feel comfortable about anymore, especially as the memory of R Kelly remains.

She should’ve replaced it with the Xtina version :ohwell: (the best version of the song). I understand not doing that at the time, deleting it sent a stronger message, but if she were to re add a different version of the song I don’t think many people would care now.

Yes! The solo and remix versions still have R. Kelly credited as a songwriter so he would have still gotten paid for it.

It should have been replaced by solo version but I feel like Kelly would probably get writing credits or something even with that so she just wanted to get it over with. It’s a great song but it was also a bad time in her life for sure.

A Very Gaga Holida

I like the RK version more than the solo version (by far) but it's funny because I was thinking about the same thing just an hour ago

Since DWUW it's removed, i stopped listening to ARTPOP as a whole album. Sure, i listen some songs here and there, but i think that cutting one song ruins the experience for me. However, i understand and respect her decision.
