I wasn't disappointed because my expectations were already low af for that track. :ally: oops!

It sounded good on the snippet (minus the overdone autotuning) tho! But that hyper repetitive chorus ruined it.

Huge Blackpink fan here, and honestly, I wish there were more variety and there were an artistic direction. For me, The Album comes across as a little insincere because there’s such a reminiscent vibe to their older work, it makes me wonder if the label was simply trying recreate things fans responded to in older songs (I.e. Middle Eastern vibes, gunshot onomatopoeias, very little Jisoo for some reason) and recontextualize them into new songs. It’s like there’s this box that Blackpink’s producers aren’t really wanting to branch out of? Which is fine, but the Korean music industry is nOTORIOUS for just canceling enormously popular groups if they’re not making enough money. Why not continue to grow forward?

That said, I’m not disappointed with the product as a whole. Is this an album? No. There’s no cohesive theme, visual, or even a title to tie things together (just like the previous EPs - see above for comments on needing artistic direction). Beyond that, by definition an EP is a record less than 30 minutes long and The Album clocks in at a whopping 24:26. This is another stunner of an EP, longer than the previous two, and I hope it takes them even farther so they have more reign over putting out something that progresses them sonically.

My favorites are Lovesick Girls and You Never Know, just like I had thought from the snippets :vegas:

Least favorite are Ice Cream and Bet You Wanna

It's a fun album overall! I like it!

I had very low expectations after How You Like That (a grower) and Ice Cream but Lovesick Girls was worth the wait. The rest of the tracks are so much better than the first 2 pre-release singles except for the Cardi B feature, damn that’s a 3 minute song and felt like 4.30 mins.

My favorites are Lovesick Girls and You Never Know. Wow, what a beautiful song to end the album with.

I expected more but the songs are good and it’s pretty solid.

Overall I’m satisfied and most of the songs will be on my regular rotation.

I am loving it. It's a bop dance hit EP. It's about what I expected with their signature sound. I wish they had been able to add Sour Candy on it, it fits so well. The Lovesick Girls video is great too. It's just fun dance music, the whole thing. I like all of the collabs too.

It's ok but when you're launching an album with just 8 tracks at just over 24 minutes, you have to bring it on every track. And it's just treading old ground for the most part and really, a lot of these songs could feel like one big song. Felt very disappointed with their collab choices. Ice Cream was awful and Cardi was barely on Bet You Wanna and it had a sound that just didn't suit her presence. All the more reason why Gaga needs to come to the rescue with SC to give them a chance of an actual successful collab. How You Like That, Pretty Savage, Lovesick Girls and Crazy Over You are the standouts but they're barely above average, if that. Expected more from what's being hailed as their first album even though it's length confirms it's just a glorified EP. I don't know what the industry's about when they don't let clearly successful acts have proper albums. It makes their work less accessible to the GP that way and makes everything all a bit muddled.

I thought Sour Candy was going to be on the album?

It never was. Even the leaked tracklist which turns out to be real never have that.

It’s cute but I always got the impression that they hardly get to do anything THEY want and most of this is what the label is telling them works/sells.

The thing about K-Pop groups is they’re too manufactured which is why I find it hard to get into it. The girls are talented but I feel like their sleazy management does more harm than it does good. Nothing new here besides the fact that it’s an ‘album’ (EP really).

I know but it's just so short, like an EP, so it just feels like it. A lot of current albums have been very short lately though, not complaining. I am loving it, Beauty and DANCE :legend:

I just finished listening through a few times and I'm sofa king obsessed. So excited to see what they keep doing. For as terrible as 2020 has been, it's been a great year for pop music!
