You're better than this :triggered: freedom of speech does not equate no consequences. She's not in prison.

Better than what? Better than ironically pointing out that we have members on this platform who use the same language & logic in defending racism, homophobia, transphobia & covid-19 conspiracy theories? Better than ironically pointing out that conservatives and "centrists" are quick to cancel & deplatform somebody liberal/progressive for a slightly controversial statement while they are defending actual murderous terrorists and argue for giving them "the benefit of doubt"?

Because when Trump supporters say this exact thing about democrats then they call it “freedom of speech” but when someone does it to them it’s suddenly not. How can’t you see the irony in that?

I guess I missed the irony :bear: still, are you guys suggesting that if a professor said "i wish all democrats died" they wouldn't be fired..? I feel like anyone wishing death to any group of people is bound to be fired from a teaching position

I don’t think anyone here is thinking that really.. @Supersonic is just saying that because if the professor was republican other republicans would say it’s just “freedom of speech” and they would protest her getting fired. It’s just like giving people taste if their own medicine.

we're not suggesting it, we're flat out saying that republicans get away with this and worse.

But that's why they're republican and we're not. They do not have values beside serving their own interests and clawing to the top of their self imposed hierarchy. They would not fire someone for wishing death upon a group of people unless that group of people is them or unless their material loss would be greater by keeping them. So of course they are going to get away with a lot more than what people who have values would. Wishing death upon a group of people (half of the population of the US, apparently) is just not excusable no matter how you look at it, any institution with values would have fired that professor. That's how i see it.

That was just her freedom of speech, I thought Americans were very adamant about protecting freedom of speech?

Marshall University is a private institution.

Freedom of speech means that she is free from government retribution for her speech. She won’t be arrested or thrown into prison for what she said.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequences from private institutions, such as your workplace.

Trump supporters who don’t wear masks also want all trump supporters to die. Is it a political statement to say you agree with them? :trollga:

Your job as a teacher or professor is to deliver instruction while trying to minimize distraction and make your students feel safe, I think wishing death on anyone clearly doesn’t sit in line w the job description :lolly:

But it’s all red or blue these days anyway right? No basic human responsibility, consequence, or common sense right? As long as she thinks the same or hates the same people as you it’s okay right? :trollga:
