The Clown 539
Wich of these two Gaga eras do you think will be more iconic? That is, which do you think will be be more remembered overall by the GP and by music and pop culture nerds? I emphasize this is not a poll based on which album you personally prefer, but rather on which one do you believe to be, obvectively, a bigger moment in Gaga's career. Born This Way. Born This Way was a phenomenon on release. The song remains one of the fastest selling on iTunes history and reigned at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 6 consecutive weeks. It is also an undisputed gay anthem, solidifying Gaga's image as an LGBTQ+ icon. The album itself sold 1.1M copies in its first week on sale and remains the second best selling album of 2011, after Adele's 21 as well as Gaga's second best selling album as of 2020. Three more singles from the album reached the top 10 on the Hot 100, with the third single, The Edge Of Glory, becoming a massive summer radio hit. All five singles were certified at least Platinum in the US. The album also supported a successful world tour, grossing ~$180M, that could have potentially become Gaga's most successful world tour had it not been cut short by her unfortunate accident. A Star Is Born. Shallow is a monster smash, still consistently in the top 100 on Spotify two years after release. At this point, it is not absurd to believe that it could end up snatching the title of 'signature' song from TF/TFM classics Poker Face and Bad Romance. The song was not only a commercial success, but also recieved universal critical acclaim, bearing the title of the most awarded song in history (and including Grammys and an Oscar among them). Two other album tracks, Always Remember Us This Way and I'll Never Love Again, despite never being released as official singles, managed to pull off sales and streams that are comparable to some radio-supported songs. A Star Is Born OST was one of the best selling albums of 2018/19, as well as one of the best selling soundtracks of the 2010's. It is currently in the top 10 most streamed female albums on Spotify, despite Gaga making her debut long before the start of the streaming era. The movie itself was also a massive hit, not only grossing more than 10 times its budget, but also earning Gaga a nomination for Best Actress for her debut role. Head Empty 24,516
I far prefer Born This Way. But it wasn't her peak. She clearly peaked with TFM and repeaked with ASIB. She always had haters, but those two era's were most universally acclaimed and most easily remembered because of it. Born This Way was definitely iconic. And she'll be remembered for the lead single. But it didn't get that same universal love that ASIB got. And it doesn't have a clear, iconic "image/moment/memory" attatched to it that the GP will remember. Edit: looks like I'll get some clapback for this judging by the poll Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺

Mr S 8,477
ASIB by far because it is associated with a movie. Successful movies will be played on TV for years. Just look at the Bodyguard, the other songs from that movie peaked at #4 and outside the top 10 yet are bonafide classics. I think others would say Born This Way unfortunately hasn't held up as well as her other hits on streaming and recurrent airplay. TEOG should have been one of her defining hits. But I would say it's the biggest and best era of all time and there is no flaw.

The Clown 539
Just now, pop ate my heart said: a SOUNDTRACK will never be better than any GAGA album. and that's on period But I'm not asking which is better. I'm basically asking which one do you think will be more remembered. Gaga album or not, you cannot seriosly argue that ARTPOP or Joanne are more remembered. Born This Way on the other hand, has the receipts to compete, but it feels like each of these 2 huge eras has strenghts exactly where the other didn't exactly deliver. Hence why I thought it would be an interesting question. Didn't expect such a clear favorite, though. Now I'm wondering if the results would be different if I posted this poll on ATRL, and after that, on a random popular Instagram page
Sister 9,907
Born This Way defined who Lady Gaga grew to be in her platform as an artist. She did a little political spotlight before it, but she decided to really go for it with Born This Way and she is now known for her unapologetic activism and is a fighting voice for her generation and those coming of age. A lot of people have very successful films and soundtracks but this achievement doesn't define who Gaga will forever be known to be. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
