It's not weird at all. What's weird about it? It's a pop song.

She didn't get hate for Bad Romance at all. Everybody loved it.

I remember when bad romance came out it took awhile for it to raise on the charts. aka people didn't like it and thought it was too weird until the AMA performance and music video.

her verses on 911 are going to be basically gibberish on FM radio signal quality.  While I understand it had a “viral moment” on Tik Tok, we need to be honest and realize artists like Jason Derulo and rappers bass their entire marketing and rollout strategies on viral moments, dances, challenges.  Hopefully her team is well prepared to make this a viral/streaming single, and push it heavily on tiktok with lots of custom content and challenges, because radio will absolutely kill this song before it starts, if it’s not organically viral already from either Tik Tok or a massive MV.

I worry though as the last time she’s followed through (key word followed through for anyone who mentions ARTPOP) on any sort of interactive and immersive content was back in BTW era...many of you younger fans do not realize what we have expected in the past technologically and marketing wise from her team usually ends up dated and “clunky” in the execution phase.

I have more faith in Bobby after ASIB and basically saving her career, but technologically I just don’t think her team is on the same level as other major “viral” artist.  Take for example her biggest viral moments of last year, her tweeting out random phrases and asking what fortnite is.  Yes, they were successful and got people talking, but only by her mocking her own age and disconnect with popular trends in a younger audience.  Which is the issue, yes Gaga can create a viral moment, but if you allege this song will be a hit with younger audiences mostly, does she really know how to connect with this specific audience, or will she come across as old and cheesy?

that said, Babylon and Replay are still the obvious chances for a radio hit

The problem with 911 is the chorus "Pop a 9-1-1" which the general public won't understand (they'll think she's talking about party drugs or even worse think it's some kind of political message about the police force).

I think it's too risky a single choice when the most obvious one is staring everyone in the face: Free Woman.

"Its good, but not great. I feel like she should have left the "screaming part" out"

"It sounded a lot better on the demo. This won't be as big of a hit as her previous singles but it's still good."

and I remember reading a lot of stuff back then with fans saying it's too repetitive, isn't relatable, too weird for the GP

The antipsychotic medication she takes. When she feels like she's having a mini breakdown she'll take one as like an emergency, hence the 911 number.

That's what I understood from her Zane Lowe interview anyway!

This also.  It pretty much sounds like she’s saying “pop” a cop.   All those bringing up how it went viral, should worry about what would happen if it went viral for any sort of f*** the police challenge or joke

No, I don't think its a great choice at all. It doesn't hit as hard as Rain On Me or Stupid Love. The chorus is underwhelming compared to the rest of the track. While visuals might be good for 911, I can't see people liking it as much as Rain On Me or Stupid Love, both of which went top 5 with the former reaching number one

Tbh, really have to disagree. As much as we as Gaga stans and pop fans like super-charged choruses and think that radio-friendly is the way to go, the GP doesn't want that anymore. Toosie Slide is melodically empty but went #1 cuz it's a vibe, pop music is still leaning towards a darker sound, people want stuff that they can meme, etc. 911 is honestly probably the one that leans into all of that the most. It is darker-pop, stands out from the rest of radio in a good way, and the CII/911 transition and lyrics can easily be memed. She can't release another "radio friendly" single, they all flop now. Look at Ava Max and Katy Perry, they have released so many traditionally "radio friendly" songs but that's just not what people want anymore.

Guys this could finally be the telephone continuation

911 is a great choice and one of the best most Gagaesque songs on the album

I agree. 911 is closer to weird smash hits like bad guy these days. It has much better potential to appeal to younger listeners, as a moody midtempo song, whereas Free Woman is too traditional pop & only will appeal to gays/LMs.

I’m personally pulling for 911 as the 3rd single just because it’s a more experimental song while still being radio friendly. I think 911 could appeal not only to those who love traditional pop music but also those who like things that are a little more experimental, have less over-the-top choruses, etc. I think it’s just fresh enough and just familiar enough to have a wide appeal. Plus it’s one of the best songs on the album! But that’s just me, I’m honestly on board and happy with whatever the single choice is (I for one love Free Woman and think it would make a great single).

I’d prefer 911 than Free basic Woman (dont get me wrong i like it, but it’s just too basic) :selena: and guys she already had the #1 for this era, let’s just hope for a great visual.

I’ll never ever forgive Gaga for ruining free woman... the demo was a HIT :saladga:

after hearing the interview sounds like bloodpop changed it :interestinga:

I couldn't agree more, I'm 20 and 911 is all my friends' favourite song on the album, it just sounds so fresh and pull her out of this "generic" image she got for ROM
