If this was a thing about the label controlling her, wouldnt they be forcing her to follow current trends? The label is suffering by these low sales probably even more than her, why would they be forcing her to keep doing the same style? I’m not saying her label is forcing her to do much other than what I’ll mention next, but indie artists never really aim for charts but rather their album quality. And usually this means less of a push from a record label but more effort to have the most ideal album of an artist. The comment was made moreso towards her seemingly forced collabs with Nicki and Migos to try to gain streaming points, or how I feel like Capitol and Katy both want to try to revitalize the bubblegum image of her. Which I feel like while yes she can make good songs with this style, I don’t think she’ll ever hit that peak again. Will root for her though. signing out
Doot 2
Yes, obviously. I highly doubt her streams comprised of MILLIONS of just random happenstance listeners. Must because she isn't dominating the charts doesn't mean she doesn't have fans. Commerical performance on the Billboard charts does not equate to whether or not someone has fans nor a career. Otherwise there would no no artists outside of the Billboard Hot 100.

She's a human being, and whether or not people like her current songs, people need to remember to be respectful.

gagaschickens 4
I believe it's because she doesn't really change up her music. It's stayed almost the same throughout the years, which I think can get boring for a fan. For example, as much as I love Gaga, if instead of Chromatica she released another Joanne and stuck to that, I would slowly unstan. It just gets tiring. I don't believe Smile is that bad of an album, but it does sound very similar to her previous work, so it's only very logical the fanbase will get bored. リのひ ᄃム刀'イ 尺乇ムり イんノ丂, ᄃム刀 リのひ? I personally think the main ingredients for KP successful hits was Dr Luke, Max Martin and Bonnie McKee.

I feel like the only one confused by this, I don't think any of her recent songs of the last two albums except NRO sound like her old stuff. There's no Roar or Firework or Last Friday Night style songs which to me is the "Katy Perry sound". I think she has changed up her music it's just gone in more of a boring direction. I "feel" the colour of music (not sure the best way to describe it) and all the big KP singles in her career are really colourful. This Smile album feels all white and grey and dull in comparison, same with half of Witness.
StrawberryBlond 14,819
They're still there, but have dwindled massively. Witness showed that her actual fans, once you remove public support, were nowhere near as many as we initially thought. Her concert attendances would have you believe she had loads but there must have been a lot of casuals as it doesn't make sense that over half of them would all drop her with the next album. That has to sting, you realise you don't have the fanbase you thought you did. But she has to realise that she has to evolve her music if she wants to stick around as staying the same has been a hindrance to her. Artists who challenge themselves have shown that's the key to a decent amount of success over the years. I get sticking with a sound that your fans love will keep your fans loyal but tastes change and people grow up, so it pays to switch things up every so often. What I love about Gaga is that if you're not keen on her new album direction, she'll make something very different next time that you may like more. She did that with AP and may well do it for Chromatica. Katy...not so much. Witness failed and it scared her into regressing and playing it safe. You also have to remember that there were a lot of other new artists breaking through when she made Witness and I think a lot of fans heads were turned. HausOfHarlow 380
What's the true definition and differences between GP, fan, superfan, and stan? I don't know which I am for most of the artists I listen to. For Smile, i bought the CD, I have listened to it several times this weekend, I shared her "out now" post on IG to the literal 80 people that watch my IG stories, and I've seen each of her tours once, when they were happening. What does that make me?
