:yennefer: interesting.

So I've obviously heard of people saying POC, which refers to anyone of color, but I guess I had never heard of people saying "white" referred to anyone with lighter skin.

I always thought that simply meant Caucasian people. TIL.

There are fully WHITE Latinos/Hispanics. Fully BLACK ones as well. Mixed ones. Native ones.

Latin American people are not and have never been one race. We are an ethnic group connected by language and similar cultures influenced by Europe, Africans, and indigenous Americans.

Yeah same, I’ve never heard a Hispanic person refer to themselves as white, like ever. When asked they say they’re Hispanic.

That’s because we identify with our ethnicity first. That doesn’t mean it’s our race.

I wonder if the larger majority of the world know this. Now I'm curious.

And I'm referring to white not obly referring to Caucasian people.

I don’t mean to sound offensive but everyone except a large portion of Americans knows this.

Latinos/Hispanics are among the most mixed people on Earth.

We don't need civilians to own guns...confiscate them all...use a ****ing taser if you're trying to protect yourself but then again...Americans love to kill anything that they don't like...this country is like a ****ing video game

And just to clarify; the reason Americans are ignorant of this is because a lot of Americans (not only white ones, but blacks as well) are mostly exposed to Mexicans. They think all Latinos are Mexicans or that we all look the same: Tan skinned, “not white enough” to be considered white.

In fact, Mexicans (a nationality, NOT A RACE like many ignorant Americans use it) are not all the same either.

Oh see that I knew. My two best friends are actually Puerto Rican. I usually say Latino/Hispanic, not Mexican or Puerto Rican (this is assuming I don't know the ethnicity already).

And yeah, I think we can all agree America sucks :bear:

Americans lack knowledge in geography and history as well. It's not surprise they simplify an entire continent.

These people are all Hispanic/Latino:

@hankhatesyouall

Look how wrong your thread was

This is terrifying, I was marching in Madison last night..... If I see one more post about "bad protestors," looters, or rioters I am going to lose it. Virtually all deaths that have occurred at a protest since George's death have been caused by alt right terrorists and the police themselves

**** America

White is the accruate term, not Caucasian. Also, whiteness, how it's defined and who belongs to the whiteness category changes over time because it's not ultimately just about skin color.

Italians and Irish didn't used to be considered white, but they are now since whiteness and who belongs changed over time in the US. They eventually assimilated into American mainstream culture and were accepted into the whiteness category.

Btw, this story is sickening and horrifying. This guy needs to be locked up.
