Ari Aster’s films have a way of staying with you for a while... It’s incredibly layered and so intelligent. I love how each project has such a fascinating mythology around it. He’s already one of the greats imo.

I'm still baffled that Toni Collette wasn't nominated for Best Actress.

And don’t get me started with Florence Pugh in Midsommar.... the literal greatest acting performance of 2019, if not the decade.

Oh wow, what a coincidence.Ā

Tonight I actually had a long awaited hang out session with a friend where the entire goal was to get him to watch Hereditary finally. He and his girlfriend were absolutely shaken!

So weird it was a thing for both of us today.Ā

Just don't waste your time on The Shining by Kubrick.Ā

I loved the movie. I was slightly disappointed by the end when it turns supernatural because for me the horror of the movie was the family dynamics. That dinner scene gave me chills...

Lmao KAREN!!!

Truth hurts, I know. But, as I have said before, even Stephen KingĀ criticized the movie due to its deviations from the novel. And the movie is just boring. Actually, can say the same about Doctor Sleep (2019).Ā :yennefer:

I thought you were joking.Ā :bear:

I fully disagree. The Shining shooketh me to my core the first time I saw it and continues to wow me every time I see it. It’s a masterpiece. Dr. Sleep was a very good sequel and film in its own right. That’sĀ myĀ truth. And you can have yours.Ā :vegas:

Lion Heart

I LOVED this movie. I tried to get everyone i know to watch it. Toni Collette was phenomenal in this movie. The dinner scene was outstanding and her wailing stayed with me for weeks. The only scene I did not like was the atticĀ scene just right before the ending. It just seemed comical and ruined the dynamic of the movie.Ā

Also TYT hosted a watch party on TwitchĀ  Saturday and we were watching Midsommar,Ā  and a lot of the boomer fans were shocked.Ā :enigma:Ā The last song >>>>

It’s good film, but OP has a point. The book is a masterpiece and King has a very valid reason for disliking it. The book was a supernatural horror, there’s no doubt the hotel is haunted, the paranormal events are real, and Danny has psychic powers. The movie on the other hand is more of a psychological horror, focuses moreĀ on cabin fever and makes everything more ambiguous, like it’s all in Jack Torrance’s head. It’s more about his descent into insanity than the Overlook being haunted. And King didn’t like this interpretation of the novel. I think the movie is great but once you read the book you kinda think ā€œhmm the movie isn’t THAT goodā€

That’s fine but I still think it’s a masterpiece without having to compare it to the book. I would probably feel differently it I had read the book, but also don’t feel it’s necessary in order toĀ appreciate the movie for what it is. I know there were liberties taken, and I get why people are critical of it.

Have you seen DoctorĀ Sleep? Apparently they did a decent job of honoring the book as well as the Kubrick version.

I haven’t seen it nor read the book. Idk ifĀ I will, I always thought writing a sequel to The Shining was a bit unnecessary.

It’s worth checking out. Definitely not essential viewing, but I really liked it.
