What’s the point? We aren’t going to agree. Tho I’d be interested in your view regarding « idols » who have to lie about their relationships, sexuality, undergo plastic surgery and too often end up killing themselves. I’m not saying this is exclusive to K-Pop, but it doesn’t make it less of a problematic system.

And look how you change the argument so quickly. I though we are talking about song writting process but okay.

Yes. I think it's sad of how Asian cultures can be obstacles when comes to how we are being treated, which is an issue among all citizens here from students, professors, doctors, engineers and etc, not just among people follow "idols" (yes, it is called like that) career path.

But hey, we fight back those obstacles everyday. It may take us 1000 years to have the same privilege like you, we will get there eventually. Just like how song writing progress within Kpop industry. But you don't care about us or any of that, do you? It's easier to judge and laugh on misfortune rather giving a hand.

Edit: I apologize for bringing up the r*pe issue myself, it was not cool to do so.

I remember there was a k-pop group who did a plastic surgery era concept ... it was more or less horrifying, the thought of more or less glamorizing it :rip:  Especially if they have no say in it, knowing how most labels love to have full control of their artists

What I’d like you to understand is that I have nothing against K-Pop or its artists, to tell you the truth I myself was a mild 2NE1 fan back in the day.

I’m not expressing some baseless prejudice against something I know nothing about. I don’t pretend I know everything about K-Pop, or nearly as much as you do, but I know enough to assert it has issues, and artistic freedom is one of them. I’m not saying that it’s better or worse than Western pop culture. I get why you’d want to defend something you care deeply about, but it won’t erase the fact that it is an industry that chews up and spits out young and vulnerable people like they’re marketable objects, and I wholeheartedly hope K-Pop stars will gain more freedom and independence as time goes by - which seems to be the case if I read you correctly.

All K-Pop groups are manufactured by the same writers and producers... The girls have never written a line in their lives.

You said "All" groups, then it wouldn't have exceptions.

Teddy credited Somi in the song What You Waiting For.

Of course all Kpop idols want freedom and independence, but at what price do they have to pay?  Losing all their fanbase?

The American Music Industry has freedom and independence, but it's way too competitive.  When was the last time a Kpop Idol can make it in a competitive freedom and independence market?  These Kpop idols would not have a chance to be as popular as Blackpink, BTS, EXO, SuperM, Twice, if they came to America as an independent artist.

CL, Tiffany Young, Amber Liu have tried that and lost their popularity.  They came from popular groups, disbanded and went to the West for freedom and independence, and now they lost almost all of their fanbase.

They cannot get any bargaining leverage to negotiate at the contract signing.   YG, SM, and JYP will say - see what happened to CL, Tiffany Young, Amber Liu, getting freedom and independence will lose all your fanbase.

The American Music Industry has to help these Kpop artists, if they want to change the Kpop industry.  By giving these Kpop artists bargaining chip leverage, so at the contract signing they can negotiate that they're not resigning with a Kpop company unless they get more freedom and independence.  They can tell YG they can go to the West and still maintain their popular status.
