It's a song about wearing condoms performed by a girl band with children as the target audience lol

when you put it like that :air:

tho their music really isn't marketed towards children, more so their public image. their first album is filled with songs such as 2 Become 1: Last Time Lover, Naked, etc. Their music is bubbly and fun but also very adult and sultry.

also like....is Geri truly the most child-friendly celebrity? :laughga:

Well truly their music is much more mature in its content than their fanbase and that's kinda my point? Music in the 90s was in a way more sexual than today, I mean, there's a song about WAP now but Cardi isn't really marketed to children and neither you see Jojo Siwa singing spicy stuff. You don't see "adult" artists crossing the children lane anymore.

hmmmmm I guess so. in the case of the Spice Girls I think it's mostly just the fact girl bands attract children, and their public personas helped a lot. I think they had some awareness about it. They had to change Last Time Lover from First Time Lover, a song originally about loss of virginity, due to the label's fear of potentially alienating young audiences (as if that's any less explicit than the final product lol).

we also have to take into account the fact that Cardi B isn't....properly marketed towards children, which again, she's a hip hop rapper whereas the Spice Girls were an all-female pop group. but also, a lot of Spice Girls fans were also adults, it's just the more visible or promoted part of the fanbase was young girls. there's a lot that plays into it, but in this case I guess it's a question of them just doing the music they liked and not properly expecting the type of people they'd get as an audience.
