Bat 6,162
This is what we had in Europe as well for a while but now it's slowly picking up again since people are more reluctant to obey the rules after a while, so please, don't cheer too early, this will change in a month or two. As I see it its not only because of the people becoming „more reluctant“, but mostly because the lockdowns have been lifted. And some countries in Europe have shown to have stable numbers, Italy or Switzerland for example.

They've steadily been declining in cases since May. Florida has 503k cases on record. Only 7,300 deaths though so your point still stands, it's just more honest and clear to make it this way imo. We were better prepared to treat people, I guess. However, NY reported 636 new cases today, FL reported 5,409 NY's highest peak was like 11k in one day I believe so...how long until FL hits that with schools opening up, no special guidelines in place, and us seemingly in the middle of our peak The worst thing is Florida and other states hitting their peaks now didn't learn a thing from the states that've already been through it as far as prevention. Florida on July 12 had 15.3k new cases so it already passed NY's peak We also cannot say that Florida handled the virus better than NY just because NY has the 3/4x of the deaths. Like said NY has more population density and they arent prepared because were the first hit in the country. Florida had the peak in the further months when they already had the time to prevent, like using masks, time to had the hospitals ready, etc.

This is something that leaves me rather consternated to be honest. The U.S. had plenty of times to look to Europe and to adapt. Europe had also enough time to fully understand the situation in China and South Korea- also within Europe, countries like UK would just have had to look at Italy. But somehow every governement failed to take the virus serious and to prepare. So here we are now

I can't change what other people do but I'm still gonna be out here wearing a mask and social distancing if I need to go outside! If people start becoming complacent here, that's all the more reason to keep wearing one.

NYC area is very densely populated. Hospitals were over capacity and people were dying just waiting for beds especially in the queens/brooklyn boroughs. I would only hope FL has less deaths I mean they had 3 months to “prepare“ for this. Wait. So you cant compare NY deaths with Florida, but you can compare cases or other things that makes Florida look bad? The double standard here is too much. Twitter 14
News I like to hear. Maybe because us and Washington state got hit hard with it first. Glad we’re setting an example for the rest of the country.
LilMonst3r 5,700
Lol the fact that Trump supporters had so much trash to talk about Cuomo when all of this first began. Bet they're all scrambling for survival.

kurtz 52
We are doing far more COVID testing now than in the spring so of course FL is showing more cases than NY. What if we had been doing this level of testing in the spring? Consider the possibility that NY has reached a level of herd immunity so the drop in infections may not have much to with actions of anyone in NY. We have also learned a great deal about the virus and how to treat people so we can save more lives now. NY was sending infected patients into nursing homes and other states learned from that disastrous mistake. And if you have to confine yourself at home in NY 99% of the time, how great is that anyway? Well, NY is always going to be hit hard in a pandemic, so initial death counts are near impossible for individual citizens to be responsible for. We were the first hit in the U.S. pretty much, and we're not used to outbreaks to this magnitude, so not everyone here was as prepared as other countries were. Florida had far more time to act and their governor doesn't seem to be doing the right thing at all. We don't know if people can have herd immunity with this virus yet, because we don't know if individuals are immune once they have it.

So why "NY was always going to be hit hard" and Florida no? Or Japan? It's no good when you only accuse one state and find excuses for the other. Well, Manhattan has 66,940 people per square mile and Florida's most populated city, Jacksonville, has 1,239 people per square mile. Miami's is 13,512 people per square mile. Tampa's is 3,628 people per square mile, etc. Manhattan also has over double the tourists that Miami has.
