Reject False Icons 4,763
Hey guys, well I'm sad and upset that Taylor named her album Folklore, because that will be pushing Nelly's album nearly to the extintion, so I'm doing this thread to make some of you to discorver a great album that was named Nelly Furtado's own Ray of Light The album was released back in November 5th 2003, While the album did not match the success of her previous debut album in such markets as the United States, it did however become a success in several European countries, the album spawned 5 singles: "Powerless (Say What You Want)", "Try", "Força", "Explode" and "The Grass Is Green" The album has sold 2 million copies worldwide The album's name comes from her Portuguese heritage specifically the Azores islands which are her parents native land, that gave Nelly the inspiration of the concept and her pregnancy during the same period of time in the album's making that changed Nelly's perception of the world and to her own words, was more mature. It has some brilliant lyrics throughout the whole record and varying music genres as well (Pop, rock, folk, World) Outstanding songs: (All of them are excellent but i recommend you these to be first introduced to the sound of the album) 1. One-trick pony 2. Powerless (Say What You Want) 3. Explode 4. Try 5. Fresh Off the Boat 6. Força Lyrics 7. The Grass Is Green 8. Picture Perfect 9. Saturdays (Ft. Jarvis Church) 10. Build You Up 11. Island of Wonder (Ft. Caetano Veloso) 12. Childhood Dreams Spoiler The album has excellent Single choices, so I would recommend you starting from there (The original music video was deleted) Say what you want: This song it's so ahead of it's time, talks about colorism in the music industry and how she was forced to be separated from her ethnicity to be "successful", and to be kind to others to find inner peace, all of this in a 2003 song, wow she is so woke up in her own words "Life sucks and all, but life is so long that maybe somebody makes you want to be a better person" its an honest and mature view on love A great motivation song that was written as the official anthem of the 2004 European Football Championship in Lisbon A poem "Teenage Waste" became a song, it talks about crude experiences while growing up it has an open meaing, but if you know the saying The grass looks greener on the other side, you can understand it Performances interview:
